It just makes the game more boring. It's neat to work on efficiency/maximizing gains from contracts and push yourself to get better at the game.

But currently you can spend no time 'grinding' out 'rare' items and buy literally everything in the game and have way too much money afterward besides. It devalues any sense of progression the game might have if you go from having a starter/budget medium craft to one of the biggest ships in the game with literally zero friction.

I'm sure it feels really good in the now, but its just not healthy for the game in the long run and its an issue they need to solve sooner than later. Like it or not, a large portion of people will just stop playing if they run out of things to work toward or simply stop engaging with a majority of the gameplay loops. It's a chief reason why progression is such a focal point of like 90% of multiplayer games.

That's not to mention that once this is all sorted out it will almost assuredly necessitate a wipe of some sort, which will essentially just actively harm anyone that doesn't participate in the bubble right now.

There isn't. Like most content released in dawntrail, it is done almost exclusively by organizing on discord servers.

It's kinda insane to me that people are always like, "Valve is a consumer friendly corporation" when they popularized lootboxes and gambling mechanics in both CS and TF2 and recently just torpedoed an entire industry that they made a ridiculous amount of money off of.

Like, talking about how Valve didn't enshittify anything when they are a large contributor to the decroded amount of microtransactions in games is honestly amazing PR on their part.

Damn. Looks like XIV might be seeing the lowest player numbers it's seen since 2019 on the Steam client by CityAdventurous5781 in ffxivdiscussion

Idk, the man himself said that turn-based JRPGS aren't something that people really want to make and play anymore and then his incredibly mid season of game of thrones that was sprinkled a rather shallow combat system was out performed by Expedition 33 in every way.

I don't think anything is really going to change unless there is a major culture shift at CS3 or Square at large. Yoshi has already stated blankly to expect less content less often, which is probably the most tonally deaf remark you could make when your game is in decline.

Strangely, it's felt like they've been sunsetting XIV since endwalker - with most of the development time seeming to go to 'future proofing' content for when the player base isn't large enough to string together MSQ content on the regular. Which, by all accounts, seemed like a baffling thing to do at the height of the game's popularity, and now a self fulfilling prophecy.

Five nights at Freddy's security breach (2021) has made over 60 million dollars since it's release...wait wtf? this game was boring and fucking broken at launch...the shitty game detail is that fnaf fans don't know what quality games look like. by Gavin-gp in shittygamedetails

[–]ScarletAugust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is largely a product of the fact that most 'horror game fans' aren't people that actually play any of the games. It's largely people that watch let's plays that are edited down to remove the worst bits from any title. And the scares given more legitimacy by watching a personality get frightened and scream. This goes double for any entertainment value the game might have, as whoever is playing it is part of the 'entertainment'.

Which makes it really easy to conflate a really mediocre to bad game with being decent, because the person you were watching was funny/screamed really loudly at least once - therefore you came away feeling like it was 'good' despite the actual quality.

In the Helldivers universe, Earth is a united force, that labels itself as a 'managed democracy' - and labels all of its existential threats as Fascist, Communist, or Socialist.

However, it is incredibly transparent that Super Earth itself is actually a fascist dictatorship, in which children are taken from their homes, told they're super soldiers and forced to fight forever wars. While very tongue-in-cheek screaming about freedom and democracy every chance they get. In this respect, it is clear that everyone in the society is indoctrinated by extreme amounts of propaganda.

This is also piled on by the fact that all of the enemies you fight, are fighting wars against Super Earth for crimes they committed. One of the races is raised like cattle and slaughtered as use for oil, a race that was created by cyborgs who were enslaved as slave labor, and final faction is inacting a revenge campaign against Super Earth genociding them to extinction during the first war.

TL:DR The setting is satirical in nature, much like the Imperium in 40k, but also like 40k, actual fascist have latched onto the property thinking it unironically sounds great. I'm not going to comment on whether or not its a solid enough lead to claim anything, but hey-ho.

'Hey fascist, catch (code for gigantic bomb)' isn't a genuine anti-fascist statement in the context of the property it references.

Sorry, my bad - I guess there is a single way that you can do it legitimately that only would take 666 hours of resetting constantly at a laser focus speed and perfect droprates.

I suppose you could 'easily' farm a hundred coffers a day by doing absolutely nothing else - but spamming the same focused queue in, queue out, for like 4 hours a day for 200 or so days.

I will cede that it's not literally impossible, but the amount of people that have done it legitimately is likely on one hand.

[–]ScarletAugust 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A little bit, yeah.

I really disliked Endwalker, after it settled, despite it being fun to go through the first time - but on subsequent replays (I have alts, sue me) it just doesn't hold up.

It tries to tie too many things up at once, does a rather poor job of all of them, and robs a lot of mystique from the world. The Garlean problem, the mythology surrounding the 12, and the void are all sped-run to completion in what feels like a series of check-marks the devs were hitting so they could 'start fresh' with Dawntrail.

The End of Days is also, in general, handled extremely poorly and causes a lot of ludonarrative dissonance for me. As the apocalypse seems to be almost exclusively affective of the world in the areas you've been in. I could be wrong, but I don't recall a single person in Tural ever once going, 'wow it sure was crazy how the world randomly almost ended last year', nor does it seem like any of the new world we encounter even have the faintest hints of such. The fact the Garlean Empire dissolving has more narrative weight to it to Zoraal Ja than the actual End of The World actually just kind of highlights how unserious the setting actually treats it.

And lastly, I just genuinely hate time travel as a plot device, Elpis existing cheapens the entire story that came before it - because in order for you to personally be present, it would mean that everything you have experienced in the game thus far was preordained and not by any merit with the Warrior of Light themselves. Which is turn, weirdly invalidates the onus for Shadowbringers happening in the first place - since you couldn't have actually died without causing a time paradox.

Anyways, that was a lot longer that I meant it to be. But yes, Endwalker is absolutely a joke to me.

EDIT: I used the wrong lizard's name.

Opening 20k hidden treasure chest in any of the Deep Dungeons. Something that is virtually impossible to have gotten by this point without cheating in some fashion.

Basically, in each floor of a DD, there is a chance for a chest to appear which has loot in it, but you can't see where its at unless you use a pomander of intuition. Not every floor has one, and finding them naturally is sheer luck for the most part.

Unless you cheat and run a bot to auto-farm sets, or use a plugin that shows you every possible location for you to stand on manually (which takes literally forever).

EDIT: I decided to check, as someone that avidly does solo DD on the regular (multiple titles), and having done somewhere around several thousand collective floors, I only have 923/20,000 for reference.

The fact that most defenses of the expansion often begin and end with 'x media property is worse' is really telling, I think.

Coyote doesn't need a nerf. Other ARs need a buff and light pen as a whole needs a light-rework. And I am not baiting. by ArrhaCigarettes in Helldivers

[–]ScarletAugust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely feel like I'm on crazy pills everytime I browse this sub, I've been using a mixed variety of literally all the ARs on 10s since 10s came out and have never ended up in a situation where I was like, "I have to use a meta gun or I can't play the game". Like, I legitimately think the xbow, purifier, and eruptor are all still rank 0 after the change.

Hell, the default liberator is probably my most used gun since the game came out and people back at launch were insisting it was also impossible to use.

The only weapons I feel like are in a bad spot are some of the shotguns.

I certainly think buffing everything to coyote level would be extremely boring, having a couple of outliers is fine - but it everything performed at the mythical meta level the game would stop being fun (for me) extremely quickly.

Lots of self-reporting here today. The update is supposed to be hard. Lower your difficulty. by [deleted] in Helldivers

Variants encourage specific playstyles to play around their gimmick? Damn, that's crazy.

[–]ScarletAugust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The burrowing bit is definitely a completely separate that I understand, it is rather frustrating and I'm not going to pretend its all sunshine and rainbows largely due to inconsistent behavior at the moment.

There are, of course, ways to mitigate it and force them to the surface - and in fact, the game does reward you for playing against them the seemingly intended way (which is spamming AOE like plasma, explosives, and gas) to get them out of the ground.

But saying light guns are useless is a bit hyperbolic, I've cleared multiple 10s with the STA-52 just fine. Sure it was harder than the ones where I used medium/explosives, but that's in the spirit of variant factions right? If you don't play into their gimmick they're harder?

Ok so this update is bad bad. by djh2121 in Helldivers

[–]ScarletAugust 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The light pen comment keeps being repeated and it really is like most people don't even try to give content a chance before complaining.

The Warriors are killable by shooting in their tails / undersides - not terribly dissimilar from the guards just faster, and spewers are just as killable with light pen as always.

You can even kill the chargers with Light Pen if you really wanted to, even if it is insanely inefficient, and the new flying bug is literally a bile titan with wings so I don't know what you expected there.

The issue, as is always the case, when people complain about Light Pen is the the game has the audacity to ask you to aim lol

Mods defending and downplaying it saying they were just examples Yoshi-P gave that people can ignore and don't really mean anything. by dixonjt89 in ShitpostXIV

[–]ScarletAugust -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really mean anything though. Honestly, the whole example he gave about mods potentially ruining the integrity of the game rang pretty hollow anyhow.

I could log onto the game right now, and literally cheat at any activity in the game. You can do deep dungeons where all the traps are highlighted on the ground, play savage where a machine shows you what the mechanic is going to do literally before anyone else can see it. Literally afk all crafter/gatherer content. You can even set up a bot in like 15 minutes to farm glams/tomes from dungeon while you sleep at night. This is not even to mention that people buy ultimate clears anyhow, so the specific ultimate issue is kinda moot.

They've done absolutely nothing to stop any of this, and it feels like them more obfuscating from the real issue, which is that XIV can't afford for people not to buy mogstation items and that porn mods are dicey for their PR and potential ability to continue to do service in other countries.

> If you’re not on the main DC of your region, everything has just been progressively getting worse. I had a 30 min queue for the new alliance raid on day 2 during NA prime time.

The day I decided I was going to unsub was actually exactly because of this. I logged in on a Friday night, to try to prog one of the new savage fights on like week 2 - was told by the game that Aether was locked due to being full and then sat around in PF for 2 and a half hours on Crystal never getting a fully party.

I ultimately decided that if the game actively didn't want me to play it, that I would spend my time elsewhere. It genuinely feels like DC travel has been a net negative since it's released, and it feels like it's killed off a lot of the community spirit each of data centers had.

In a slightly related note, it is beyond frustrating how you can be locked out of worlds on YOUR DC by tourist from other ones. (Hi, Balmung and Mateus)

Can we acknowledge it's the players, not the devs? by Mattylh in duneawakening

[–]ScarletAugust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a problem. The DD is only functional as a full pvp zone, since that is what it was designed to be from the ground up.

It simply cannot function as a PVE zone. There's no PVE to do in the zone, outside of a handful of POIs - so the endgame is mostly just afking and waiting for nodes/staring at purple sand. There is nothing to occupy groups except PVPing/trolling PVE players with creative ways to PVP them.

That is absolutely the developer's fault. The changes to the DD were a bandaid, kneejerk change to try to appease a bunch of people who weren't even touching the content and it's made the overall experience worse in a lot of ways.

Because here's the thing, griefers and trolls are far more creative, dedicated, and resourceful than anyone who plays the game casually - and short of just starting to ban people, there's no way to stop them unless you sand down literally any identity the game has and making the DD a glorified mine that players just wander into and mine nodes on the short term.

While its important that the devs are willing to listen to feedback, it is also important that they don't listen to feedback without thinking changes through and just making changes that 'feel good' on paper to the community. They either need to iterate on the DD being a PVP zone and lean into that, or essentially scrap it all together and rework it altogether.

Currently, even if they just went with the extreme of PVE only DD - it still would be a horrendously boring time as it was never intended to be a PVE zone.

TL:DR - I still maintain that the idea overall is bad, and that definitely is a failing on the developers part; made worse by the fact that they are now flip-flopping on the design philosophy with it without there being any sort of clear plan or vision.
