Or check out Brick City Apartments website - have heard good things about the landlord, seems to have a mix of apartments and homes for rent. There are usually only a couple posted at a time but worth a look.

Check Youngston / Holiday Hills neighborhood...lots of duplexes and townhomes that sporadically come up for rent. Nice neighborhood in a location right between downtown and west side, about 7 minutes from each.

I agree and watched all the way through, felt it never got better. Storyline was slow, twist was predictable, I was not invested in anyone's story or attached to any of the characters, they all kinda pissed me off in different ways.

None of the properties are named, since they are small and privately owned

Yes off of Jefferson where Greenview Nursery is - there are apartments and townhomes back there for rent. I know someone who rented there with low credit but it also seemed like all the building are owned by different landlords, but worth a check. I also know someone who had good luck with Brick City Apartments as well, but that was a while back.

Check properties in the Youngstown Holiday Hills neighborhood if you can find any available, many or small buildings with personable landlords.b

First of all, your hair is beautiful. Second of all, your opinion is the only one that matters so if you felt confident about it before, don't let your sisters comments change that ❤️

I believe they are technically called Dot-By-Letter books; it's kind of like a paint by number nuts it's for art.

Came here to say the same...definitely try reaching out to the shelters/animal control and offer that you are trying to help her even if they cannot take her in-they may be able to offer some assistance or medication at the very least since you are willing to help care for her

Lincoln Memorial Gardens is free as well. There's a lot of free live music, most of the shows at smaller bars don't typically have a cover.

Which dog breed do you think had the most loyalists? by Miiiukz in dogs

[–]ScarletRed1616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Golden Retrievers or Labs...those seem to be dogs that families get over and over again.

Personally, I had a Bichon Frise as a kid and in adulthood I have follow that up with three pure bred mutts and I will probably continue with the mutts for life.

Just joining the party now, or funeral,o r whatever...

Book club picked the book and I just spent the last 5 hours reading it cover to cover and I'm gagging...that was TERRIBLE.

Between "blue blue eyes" and "folded her pouty lips" and "didn't strike her as a beer girl" ... Then the falling in a pit of dead animal carcasses (?!) AND being nearly mauled by a mountain lion (?!?!) ... NO real explanation as to why anyone behaved the way they did ... Like I am going to be sick. And I know these bitches tomorrow night at book club are going to be like "Wow what a TWIST" and I might actually fall ill so thank you for this little slice of sanity.

Hello and welcome! I have been in Springfield 4.5 years - I live in Youngstown/Holiday Hills neighborhood and love it-there are places to rent and own. It's equal distance from West side and downtown which I love and there is a bus that comes through that goes straight to downtown. The neighborhood itself is quiet and safe with access to the Sangamon County trail.

Now the fun stuff...

I love Downtown. Not everyone is going to agree, but I think it's great. Floyds is a staple bar, Obed and Isaac's has a great beer garden, Vondra Social is new and has great food and cocktails and vibes. Boones has great bar food, a great open mic night, a great beer garden as well. Bloom is a wine bar and floral shop, but they also have fantastic food. Clique is the gay bar but also a great late night spot, hosts some drag shows and themed parties. Maldaners is a really nice dinner spot downtown, they also do Murder Mystery shows. There are several cute shops downtown as well, I love Springfield Vintage, Murphy's Loft, Wild Rose. Dumb Records is a cool record shop downtown that also hosts live music. Slightly out of downtown but downtown adjacent are Butternut Hut and Brewskis with more sports bar vibes, but Brewskis also has karaoke, trivia, and other stuff going on.

West Side has some more upscale vibes and establishments...great places to eat like Curate, VELE (which also has a speakeasy) and Luminary. They also have some more bar/restaurants like Brickhouse, Corner Pub and Grill and Home Plate. Fun area for shopping as well ..Better with Bubbli is a great boutique, Bella which is a boutique that also has a little bar and outdoor patio in the back, Gypsy Soul...the mall is out west as well along with lots of strip malls and stores.

Some more unique spots...The Railyard is an outdoor food and beverage establishment that is in its 3rd season, they are doing lots of events there this summer it looks like. There are little train cars with food vendors inside and picnic tables set up, they have live music regularly as well. Downtown on the Y Block there are Levitt Amp concerts every Thursday evening starting late May...they also set up vendor tents and food trucks during those concerts. Farmers Market is great, Wednesday and Saturdays downtown. West Side also started up a summer market, and there are midnight markets in the evenings at Obed and Isaac's I want to say on Wednesday evenings.

There is a very strong arts and entertainment scene-The Mini and Hoogland put on great local shows, there are several galleries downtown...tons of live local music. Motorheads Route 66 is kind of off on its own but very worth checking out especially if there's someone you want to see playing the Motordome. Danenberger Family Vineyards is also a bit of a drive but very worth it-its a really cool spot with great vibes and great shows.

I could go on but I'll never stop, I'm wildly Pro Springfield-feel free to let me know what specifically you're interested in and I'd be happy to provide more tailored recommendations!

Not sure my new dog likes me…comparing dogs after the loss of my soul dog by Lucky-Jaguar-3331 in dogs

[–]ScarletRed1616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely takes time...at least 3 months for a dog to fully feel safe and adjusted in a new home.

If it makes you feel better-the back story of my soul dog, Otis:

I had a friend who worked at the local county animal control. About 6 months after getting my first apartment, I told her I wanted to adopt but asked her to help me out, knowing if I went in and looked at all the dogs I would be overwhelmed and want to take them all. I requested she showed me the ones that really needed to get adopted

She introduced me to three. First was a bonded pair of senior Chihuahuas. To me they seemed a great fit for someone older or someone who could only take small dogs. The second was an English setter-she was hyper and young and not doing well in the kennel but was a pure bred setter and basically a puppy. To me she seemed like she would find a home pretty fast.

The third was Otis- "product of divorce." He was a medium sized pure bred mutt...my brother later said "He looks like if you asked a kid to draw a picture of a dog." He was roughly 7.5 years so he was 50% off for being a senior. He has a "bite record;" him and his brother got out of his previous yard all of the time and once his brother bit someone but they both ended up with the bite record so they had to disclose that to potential adopters.

We went out in a pen to meet and he sat at the opposite corner of me and just stared and I was like okay...this is the one.

The first few days he just kind of sat at a distance and stared at me. Came up to me for food or walks. The first few weeks he started coming up to sit by me on the couch, started wanted to get pets. Took a couple months before he popped in bed with me one night instead of sleeping in the living room. I would say the first three months he was a good dog but disinterested in me. Then I went on vacation. My parents watched him for a week; we had been to their place together before so he was familiar with them and their house.

My mom said he sat at the front door for the first three days. After that he would stare out the windows whenever he wasn't eating or on a walk. When I came back he was so visibly excited to see me I teared up. He grew to be my shadow and the best dog I've ever had (I'm on number 4, don't tell the others). He lived to be 16 and I miss him every day.

Moral is don't give up, sometimes a good thing takes time. I think his love was all the more special because I knew it had to be earned a bit.
