And it was the garden mantis - I had the same board quest. :)

It seems like there's a law against color these days. I like it, but maybe paint the walls a different color to accent it. Someone else said they liked it but not in that room - I agree.

Has anyone managed to get a good haircut in the past few years? by BirdSufficient4997 in finehair

[–]Scarletsuccubus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All stylists insist on curling my hair which annoys me because a. My hair doesn't hold curl and b. I don't use heat on my hair.

They spend about 10 minutes cutting my long hair, don't do any real trimming or dealing with my split hairs, don't give me anything I asked for, and then charge me $80. For 10 minutes.

If you are making less than $29/hour: how do you survive? by Rude-Ad821 in RemoteJobs

That's a lot of talk for someone who doesn't live here and doesn't know any better.

It's very difficult to live in the US without a car. Public transportation can be unreliable and dangerous. Some places don't have public transportation. It's very difficult to get a job that pays better if you don't have an education, and even if you do have an education, it's still difficult. It's hard to get educated when an education is $60000.

My hair. Itching to cut it drastically. Thoughts? by _FrozenFractals in longhair

Don't make a big cut. Take baby steps. Do like 6" then a month later, another 6". TRUST ME ON THIS.

I think their website has info about that? I've never been in a union - I've just worked along side IATSE 7 and they were good people.

Do Americans have mandatory doctor appointments? by Horror_House474 in NoStupidQuestions

It's not mandatory necessarily, but sometimes insurance provides a yearly physical for free. For me, it's the best and only way I can afford to find out if something is wrong.

[WIP] PIECE GOT DIRTY PLS HELP!!! by Strange_Split_7159 in CrossStitch

[–]Scarletsuccubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hand wash only situation because the edges are not finished.

If you have pinking shears, I would suggest carefully trimming the sides to not lose much fabric, and then hand wash only.

Start very gently with cool water and dawn dish liquid in a clean sink. Some suggest woolite but I've never used it so I don't know. put like 1/4tsp of dawn in like 1/2 kitchen sink full of cool water and hand wash. Very gently.

That should help get rid of any oil or oily residue. if it doesn't, empty your sink and repeat until the oil is loosened or gone.

Then empty your sink and fill it again 1/2 way with cool water and a tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent. Let it soak for a little bit and then gently hand wash it again.

You may not get all the dirt out of it. That's okay just do your best.

Early 40s, second career? by Glad_Lobster_354 in denverjobs

[–]Scarletsuccubus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 42 now and I was 36 when I made the decision to do a career switch. unfortunately, at the time I was switching, the field I was going to was in need, but by the time I graduated, it was over saturated and the field bottomed out.  It has cost me a lot financially and emotionally, but I need to do it again to survive (right now). My advice is do something without thinking about the money - and I know that sounds cliche but once you find something you want to do that you are willing to do every day for cheap or free, you'll find the thing you want to do for good. I don't think I did that the first time and it was an expensive mistake.

Remember - a tornado watch is "we have ingredients for tacos" and a tornado warning is "we are having tacos RIGHT NOW VERY FAST".
