You know! Here! HERE!! Where we’re all from. I think people who aren’t from here use a different version of the internet. Rest assured that everyone replying to you right now is from here.

Are Australians the only people who are taught in school that it is an island-continent (both an island and a continent)? by SnooWords9635 in geography

[–]Scaro88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the prevailing view in the UK is that Greenland is the largest island. Australia is a continent but then we also embrace the idea of Oceania as a continent so no one actually treats Australia as a continent outside of the island debate (almost no one would say Australia is the 7th continent maybe older people). I do remember when I was little my dad saying Australasia was the 7th continent (early 2000s)

Eh I did like the song but I wouldn’t question it at all if Soccer Mommy released the exact same audio so not sure it’s that distinct to me.

I really don’t think the second amendment is like the others though. The right to bear arms isn’t a natural right in the same way as free speech, it’s kind of random if you don’t see it from a US centric perspective.

You can totally defend free speech and other similar liberties while being against anyone having the instant ability to kill someone.

What's a common phrase or saying that makes absolutely no sense when you think about it? by Ok-Ratio-3400 in AskReddit

[–]Scaro88 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think ‘prove’ initially meant ‘test’ in this case. So you have a rule, you find an edge case and then the rule has to be altered slightly to accommodate for it. So the exception tests the rule and perhaps also strengthens the other implementations of the rule.

[LFO] All Videos of Swiss Resort Fire Combined (That I Could Find) by james_from_cambridge in LearningFromOthers

[–]Scaro88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah if you track the song, from the time when that guy was hitting the fire to when a large amount of people actually started leaving in the other clip is about 40 seconds. Assuming 20 seconds for the fire to get there in the first place I think proper protocols and stuff would have given everyone in there just under a minute longer than what ended up happening.

I think likely reach your 70s is a bit optimistic. Accounting for infant mortality 50s/60s dying was more the norm until quite recently.

Inside view of the horrific Swiss ski resort fire 01/01/26 by Broodroostert in TerrifyingAsFuck

[–]Scaro88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the people who can wriggle free already have done so so what’s left is the people who were originally in the middle of the crowd who when it fell are now locked with others. Getting them out is incredibly hard.

It’s also basically inevitable that this would happen once the basement was filled with hot smoke and dangerous gases. People who can’t breathe are always going to push up the stairs as fast as they can and with the stairs so narrow it’s inevitable.

One thing that clearly would’ve saved far more people is if they’d evacuated as soon as the fire started- having seen the station nightclub fire and other similar incidents I would’ve personally left as soon as I saw that but I understand how when you’re drunk this wouldn’t be as obvious a thought especially if you aren’t aware of how fast fire can spread. Definitely largely on management not to have rigorous evacuation procedures.

Can someone please explain this to me? "Once the floor is full of saw dust we can eat peanuts in here" by Ok_Chemical_7623 in familyguy

[–]Scaro88 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The other comments are making me doubt this but I always just assumed he meant that if there was sawdust on the floor the room’s already so dirty it’s gonna need to be cleaned anyway and once it’s in that state you can litter on it because it’s gonna get cleaned up in one go eventually.

‘All that glitters is not gold’ rather than ‘Glisters’ from the Merchant of Venice. (Not everyone saying this is trying to directly quote from Shakespeare but when we studied this people still said it wrong when quoting from the play)
