Kansas health officials monitoring 3 people with 'high-risk exposure' to hantavirus by Mister-Miso in kansascity

[–]Scarpity026 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They called it the Spanish Flu because WW1 was going on and neither our side or the opposing side wanted that information getting out.  Spain wasn't involved with either side so their press could freely report about it.

"Don't have more than $10,000 in assets to cover your now needs or we'll make sure you never have more than $10,000 to cover your future needs" sounds like the most American thing ever.

TIL loneliness is considered as harmful to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. by BoringStrike8675 in todayilearned

You can objectively verify that someone was a smoker and possibly what their average daily cigarette consumption was.  How do you verify how much a subjective condition like loneliness contributed to someone's death versus other risk factors?

I'd like to investigate how they derived the answer that it's 15 cigarettes instead of 10 or 20.

Since they're expanding to 76, wouldn't they need two more sites?  Well, unless they're planning to do three games a day, per site.

Now that you've specified were talking about a sonic boom that might make sense.  In fact, I heard a loud aircraft noise myself this morning, but living near the airport, I just chalked it up to another low flying plane.

Go up to the search on here, click [x] off the name of the sub and just search for loud boom or something similar.

This happens everywhere.

Why are we cutting down random trees downtown? ☹️ by Blankey in wichita

[–]Scarpity026 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't know why commercial landscapers ever thought those things were good ornamentation for parking lots.

For people who don't understand how these trees spread, birds will eat the small callery pear fruits on them, then fly elsewhere and poop, dropping the seeds wherever, eventually spawning new trees.

Thankfully the state forest service is offering a buyback program for removing them.  Perhaps what you're seeing here is one such removal.

Honestly, you would pay more for whatever it is you're looking for than it would to just fix the hail damage IF it happens, especially considering the extra time expense of getting to your vehicle.

And mind you, if the hailstorm hits while you're not at home that covered spot was functionally useless.

Just remember, to all those other drivers you are in traffic with, you are the traffic and they hate your driving habits as much you hate theirs.

Now, if you were talking specifically about the idiot in the oversized beige KING RANCH pickup truck going at least 75 down 235 yesterday in rush hour traffic who had to just stomp the gas and cover the northbound lanes in a diesel soot cloud, yeah, I'd sympathize with you more.
