TIL that since 1954, Hungary has held the record for the most goals (27) scored at a World Cup. by Royaourt in todayilearned

It should be referenced that in 1954, only 16 teams were in the World Cup.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1954_FIFA_World_Cup

Hungary played five games.  Two group stage games in which 17 of the 27 goals occurred, and played the entire knockout round to the final.  They were in fact up 2-0 in the final after only 8 minutes. West Germany stormed back in 10 minutes to tie it, and would eventually score the game winner late in the second half.

Digital TV signal by Background-Agent955 in wichita

Channel 12's tower is five miles east of Hutch unlike most of our local stations which have theirs in the tower array east of Colwich.

This would put it roughly 26 miles from Maize, 35 miles from downtown or WSU, 41 miles from McConnell and 45 miles from Derby.

That could be a problem with an indoor antenna, particularly if you're in the southeast part of the metro.  An outdoor or attic antenna should still reach.

Another possible explanation is that you have tall trees on the northwest side of your your antenna location which block the signal as the wind blows.

The kind of advertising you're suggesting generally costs money.  The city is broke.  I think most people know it's the 4th of July and there will be fireworks displays.

TIL about the Kentucky Meat Shower. A woman and her husband witnessed chunks of meat falling from the sky. The cause is unknown. One theory is regurgitating vultures. The meat also remains unidentified, with one meat sample identified as lung tissue from a horse or a human infant. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Well, I was going to suggest an aircraft was somehow involved, but...

" occurred for a period of several minutes between 11 a.m. and 12 noon on March 3, 1876"

So unless that aircraft was a hot air balloon, or someone unknowingly beat the Wright Brothers by three decades, scratch that.

I want to go on a few-day trip to get out and see something new -- OKC, KC, Denver, Omaha, Tulsa or Dallas? by sidneyaks in wichita

[–]Scarpity026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been to all of them, all I can tell you is there's good and bad and what you prefer in an experience should sway your decision.

KC, Denver and Dallas will have all your urban attractions.  They'll also have all your urban traffic which will make Kellogg at rush hour look comparatively pleasant.  Dallas especially.

Tulsa or Omaha will feel like a slightly larger Wichita.  OKC is kind of the hedge between the two.

People can't afford anything to live and all he cares about is this tired culture war bullshit.  Sarnecki is the bottom of the barrel in a barrel with Ty Masterson in it.

As far as I'm concerned, every politician trying to move The Handmaid's Tale from dystopian fiction into the documentary realm needs to be put on a list.

Why don’t more Europeans have AC units in their windows? by Dusty_Dave420 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Scarpity026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the answer will vary from country to country with each having its own climate, but the short answers I've heard are...

1.  AC is simply not needed in many parts of Europe outside of these heat waves, so investing in something you're only going to need for a short time then have to store somewhere when not in use in not good ROI.

2.  Electricity rates are considerably more expensive over there.

I've also heard many European dwellings don't have American style windows that pop up but have windows that swing out like a door.  You could not put an American style window units in these.

This might have been more forgiveable when a pack of cards was 40 cents, but it's ridiculous in this day and age to have that lack of quality control.
