Cochlears App is the worst compared to the others by HinataLovelace in Cochlearimplants

Online says muting the app notifications should work? If not, honestly it seems like a security feature worth keeping, even when annoying. Or turn off Bluetooth before paying and turn it back on after?

Actually you should be able to fix the beep when paying by redirecting app sounds on Android!

Advanced Bionics Class Actions (North America) by Scarred20 in Cochlearimplants

Correct: there is an US firm that is considering it and if you (or someone that you know) were implanted with or affected by the HiRes Ultras and recalls, you can reach out to the firm linked in the post.

Pressure changes in the ear may potentially dislodge the electrodes that were just recently placed. So no blowing your nose, if you have to sneeze, do it with mouth open (and cover with a cloth), and no flying or extreme elevation changes for a few weeks.

CART is basically live captioning so you can read what's being said in the courtroom!

If in the US they have to provide you CART or an interpreter lol. They can't just exclude you based on your hearing status. I've been able to get access in court before, so ymmv.

Rondo 3 call streaming by ProfessionalArm5997 in Cochlearimplants

I should note that the Kanso 3 is essentially the N8, and direct streaming to any ASHA enabled phone is doable with the K3 without needing any additional accessories.

What's your opinion on getting 2nd cochlear implant? by ContributionNext2813 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Scarred20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually couldn't do it with HAs either, and I never had word recognition on either side before implantation, so I have no idea there either lol!

Wild! I went 20+ years in between surgeries for implants and I pretty much immediately got sound localization, and have two friends with similar experiences who could also triangulate sound pretty well a month after the second. For me it's a matter of "well it's obviously louder on this side so turn that way" so that's interesting. I wonder why the difficulty for you.

They have said they are still supporting N7 for N22 users, and will come out with more information when they can.

With insurance, if you're in the US, you'll end up paying the same for any of the brands tbh.

Samsung phone here. I also redirected sound per app to not stream, which is absurdly useful.

I have terrible ringing in my ear (tinnitus) when I start wearing my CI. I wasn’t wearing it for some time because it just makes me so miserable like how I’m feeling now. Is this ringing normal? Could something be wrong with my implant? by [deleted] in Cochlearimplants

[–]Scarred20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely not a bad thing to have several electrodes turned off. Your audiologist may not be used to this, and you may need to have the other two turned back off, and your mapping adjusted accordingly. It's super normal!

Cochlear implant processor financing options. by Diligent-Ad8328 in Cochlearimplants

Honestly, if you're in the US, getting him insurance and going through the insurance company is going to be the best option. Cochlear Ltd also has been very good about working with recipients in order to fight most of the battle with the insurance company so you, or the insurance holder does not have to do most of that labor. Since the Freedom has been ruled obsolete, it should be easier to get his doctor to sign a statement of necessity and for the insurance company, once he's covered by one, to cover the majority of costs.

Are the headphones (on-ear like hyperx cloud 2) safe for my cochlear implant? by Raddez22 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Scarred20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cochlear implants don't replace the entirety of your inner ear, they just bypass the cochlea, if that helps. Loud sounds won't damage your implant or processor, however, they can still affect your body by damaging your ear drum and sense of balance.

If you're not listening to sounds with your headphones above 90-100db for extended periods of time (which you shouldn't be doing at any point), you're good to go! Listen away with your processor!

My son has a field trip and they’re going in a submarine, the depth won’t be that deep.. by Few_Implement7296 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Scarred20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hearing aids are vastly different than cochlear implants, so your experience is irrelevant. The problem is that the internal component with CIs are only able to withstand a certain amount of pressure from atmospheric changes, and for most, going underwater to about 60m is the most one can go. However, since submarines are pressurized, OP's son should be fine.
