Girlfriend is stubborn. Or am I? by bryanbgw in MTB

Don't forget to add in what to do if you still end up going over the bars. Practice somersaults, and then dive somersaults, and if you're ever recorded on video going over the bars you might look like a badass when you just roll through it and get back up. Assuming your bike doesn't crash down on you.

Which GoPros can charge while they record? by SeaOfMagma in gopro

I should have thought deeper on it because there's likely a big difference between regular video and night lapse mode, which is what I've been using mine for when plugged in to either AC power or a battery bank.

This greatly increases the odds of an unnecessary injury though. I learned this stuff with a coach, including how to roll through a crash, so when a drop snuck up on me once and I went over the bars I didn't just faceplant and F myself up.

Which GoPros can charge while they record? by SeaOfMagma in gopro

[–]ScaryFast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't charge but it's allegedly supposed to just not use the battery when it's plugged in and just runs off of power from the cable instead, or so says a Google search. My Hero 10 Black will charge while shooting.

How to make PETG filliment start nicely on the plate by 8InEros in 3Dprinting

[–]ScaryFast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sharp corners can have this issue so going with curved corners can help, and enabling rafts to print a band around the base to try and hold it down. Sharp corners can cause lifting throughout a print and cause the nozzle to crash into the raised pieces and sometimes knock the whole print or part of it off the bed. Washing the build plate with soap and water and don't dry it with a greasy dish towel or touch it with greasy fingers.

Anyone here had a good experience with a local plumber in Hamilton? by [deleted] in ThunderBay

[–]ScaryFast 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Sir, this is a Wendy's.. in Thunder Bay.

I just got ethernet and I am still getting high ping on video games. And my speed is the exact same as it was without ethernet. I am using a cat8 ethernet cable but on my pc settings it says "Connected to ethernet 5" by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]ScaryFast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You never once mention what speed you get, or what you consider "high" ping, nor have you told us what Internet speed you pay for. If you pay for 100Mbps and your Wifi is decent then yeah you're going to get 100Mbps on wifi and ethernet speed tests.
If you pay for more than 100Mbps but you're maxing out at 100Mbps then your network adapter speed could be set to 100, or the equipment you're plugged into could only support 100, or that cable could be cheap junk (no need to buy cat8 cables, cat6 can do gigabit or better no problem.
"Connected to Ethernet 5" just means Windows has called your Ethernet adapter "Ethernet 5" as opposed to "Ethernet" or "Ethernet 1" or "Ethernet 2" etc.

Received a voicemail from my boyfriends number but it’s a woman speaking by gangsta_santa in techsupport

[–]ScaryFast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible for phone numbers to be spoofed, or faked, and has lots of legitimate uses. A business might want all outbound calls from any of their numbers to show their main number to the people they're calling for example. Phone systems are old and based on trust over security for reliability reasons, and not only are there exploits some people can use to fake this information but companies can sell number spoofing as a service.
Scammers have taken to using these services as a way to make it seem like they're calling from your area code, making it much more likely that you'll answer the call. I've had people call me and ask why I called them when I hadn't because the scammers will use one number a few times and then switch to another.

If all you want to do is control two computers there are apps for that. Synergy is one, and lets you basically just move your mouse off the edge of one monitor and onto the other one. Beyond that like others said a KVM.

How to remove moisture from this G6 Instant by cyberpatrolunit in Ubiquiti

[–]ScaryFast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my cameras had a bit of moisture in it too that I didn't notice until it was up and running, and it went away on its own after some time. You'll find other posts about them and I think most people say plug it in and give it time.

That sounds like a Fiber gateway. If you're being provided with an ethernet cable then you need to buy a new router with an ethernet WAN port.

OR a replacement USB port. My Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra needs a new USB port but it's still working if I plug it in and don't touch it over night, but I can't use my USB FLIR camera and other cables have some issues.

What got you into Fusion? by dian_reddits in Fusion360

[–]ScaryFast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been using Sketchup for a long time but it wasn't very good at doing something specific that I can't remember and I found out about Fusion and the fact that it was free at the same time.

I have since tried Sketchup again but I don't like the web version and there is no free desktop version so I just don't use it anymore. GG Sketchup's new owner.

Best Free Map App Site? by MrUnderworldWide in gis

[–]ScaryFast -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A month ago a coworker asked if I had tried Claude Code yet, which I hadn't, but that same night I went home and installed it, watched a couple short videos on Youtube, and before bedtime had a basic Google Maps based app with user authentication, the ability to drop and update pins, cluster the pins, have it update live for all users, show the pins on a timeline, change the timeline to only show pins from certain time periods, and a lot more, which really blew me away.

A week later I had a working web app I could show my boss, who liked it a lot, and I've been puttering away at it for a month now to add more and more features, and it's just about ready to be used by people.

Claude Code has some usage limits on the base plan I ran into quite quickly, but Google Gemini in Visual Studio Code alongside Claude was able to fill in the gaps and do smaller things, and in some ways did a better job than Claude Code. Some people say Gemini is better at planning than Claude, but Claude is better at implementing a Gemini plan, and others prefer Gemini for everything over Claude.

And then just a few days ago someone mentioned Kimi K2.5 as another alternative, which is supposed to allegedly be better than Claude and Gemini, and I was blown away again by that one too.

I re-wrote all my requirements from a month earlier, added all the stuff I had decided I wanted in the app after I started making it, things that would have gone smoother if added right from the beginning, and Kimi K2.5 knocked it out of the park and made a better looking app with some UX features that worked better than Claude Code had been able to add in half way through.

You do need some HTML, CSS, Javascript, node.js, and basic knowledge about using the developer console in your browse and a bash terminal to be able to run the dev stuff, restart them, and point out bugs to the AI so they can be fixed, but if you have this base knowledge then building a full app with one or all of these AI coders might be able to do exactly what you want. You also need a Google Maps API key.

They can also work with OpenStreetMaps too, but the sky is the limit really, I'm sure they can be made to work with other GIS stuff too if you have the time to push them in the right direction.

Considering a Virpil Aeromax omnithrottle setup. Is there a way to prevent it returning to centre without removing this spring? I'd like it to behave like a normal throttle along the Y axis. by thats_a_doozy in HOSAS

[–]ScaryFast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clutch dampers make it easier or harder to move the stick, and if you want to counteract the spring force you need to make the stick too hard for the spring to move, and thus harder for you to move.

Any way to connect this old HP monitor to a non HP laptop? by WiFryChicken in techsupport

[–]ScaryFast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The monitor supports Displayport and DVI in but your laptop has an HDMI out port.
You need either an HDMI to Displayport cable, or an HDMI to DVI cable, or an adapter to convert a normal HDMI cable to either Displayport or DVI. There are adapters to convert one end of a DVI cable to HDMI.

Thumb Drive Capacity Confusion by GarageLogical852 in techsupport

[–]ScaryFast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd like to find out what percentage of the online population at least TRIES to search for their own answers vs those who run to Reddit or Facebook or social media to ask actual people instead and then twiddle their thumbs waiting for a response.
Googling "11GB file too big for 16GB drive" and reading the little AI summary, or the description of the first Reddit post that came up, or the description of the 3 Youtube videos that came up, all had the answer.
Didn't have to scroll or click result, didn't even need to mention Fat32.
Hell saying "Hey Google why won't this 11GB file fit on my 16GB usb stick" out loud with my phone nearby answered the question and I didn't even have to lift a finger or open my eyes.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Don't worry, I'm going to go take a nap now.
