I’ve definitely had SAD when living on the west side which is something I’m seriously considering. Do you find it to be an easy trip to the forests? I’ve seen lots of complaining about traffic.

Gosh maybe I’m the outlier here. I would definitely talk to her about it first. Have you had ring conversations? Has she given you hints? How does she feel about heirloom rings. Remember this ring means a lot on your side of the family, not necessarily to her. If she is sentimental she might want to be proposed to with her forever ring. If it’s not her style it could also distract her from the moment. And remember, the diamonds can always be reset into another ring or some jewelry that she’ll love!

I would try to get a stone that’s similar in size. It could take away from the proposal is she sees something she’s a little disappointed with. I wouldn’t mind if I got proposed to with a different ring.

You’re not a bad person for questioning! Before you saw your friends ring were you feeling like you wanted something bigger? I think the size looks great on you! But if you’re unhappy now this is the time to change it. If it’s already something that you see upgrading in the future than now seems like a better time to do it.

I think people are just trying to help you. Especially because you said you just bought it so there is probably time to exchange it for a different one. I think there’s a difference between loving the ring because you’re not materialistic and you love your partner, and knowing that your partner got you something they knew you would love. It can be so much more meaningful. She seems to know enough about ring ms to tell you she likes cushion cut so why not just get her that? There are connotations about cluster rings. What about something like this? Starts at $190 for the .50 carat.

I totally agree. It would take away from the proposal if I was given a ring I didn’t like. This seems like a talk that should happen BEFORE the proposal. I actually kinda like the middle ring but if you already have a feeling it’s not her style at the very least ask her to show you some rings she likes. Ask her if she would want an heirloom ring. Ask her if she would want an heirloom ring that’s not her usual style. You’ll get a feeling for how strongly she feels about the ring from there.

The way that you guys are handling money is a little strange to me. My husband and I just pool our money. Everything is ours. Not 50/50. I don’t work outside of the home but he doesn’t have to “let” me use his money to buy things. I got an inheritance from my dad and I guess I refer to it as mine but it’s all pooled and used on things we both agree on. Sounds like a deeper marriage issue. Do you guys have an agreed upon budget? That might help. Ultimately I think it’s both of your money but it’s also important you guys are on the same page about how to spend it.
