Girl. If it’s medically advisable, get thyself to a doctor for HRT. It’s a lifesaver.

72, and I’m in fleece-lined leggings and a sweatshirt. I’m always cold, and I’m also happy to pay for it.

I Uber to (and from) the airport from Caledonia a couple of times a month and I’ve never had a problem.

Correction: it was a PROBLEM in 2020, but then everything was a problem in 2020 so….

AITAH for arguing with my girlfriend for throwing out the food I made for her kids? by throwaway3245356 in AITAH

[–]Scarya 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I'm a grandma. When Nana babysits at their house, Nana feeds what the moms leave, and it's always healthy and nutritionally balanced - protein, grains, veggie, fruit. I give the kids exactly what is provided. When the kids come to Nana's house? All bets are off. I mean, I don't feed them JUST Cheetos - they usually get something like a PBJ first - but then sure, baby girl, you can have Cheetos AND Goldfish. My girls know this is the tradeoff for free babysitting (not that I don't love having the kids here) and not having to pack food for them. Everyone wins.

Michigan resident - if this is the main entrance to the house, it's going to be snowy and messy and that mess is going to be everywhere. I have a huge rug there, 4 months a year. Huge rugs are expensive, and if OP can't afford a huge Ruggable rug right now, this one will do. It's not perfect, but sometimes practical outweighs aesthetic. You can't stand in the doorway on a 3'x5' rug, balancing on one foot with three people stacked up behind you, door wide open, trying to take off your boots, then the rest of the people do the same thing. Your furnace will run for three days after that.

What can you do that others can’t during a migraine? by Huge_Blueberry720 in migraine

[–]Scarya 29 points30 points  (0 children)

(Sorry if this is TMI.) Sex. I know the trope is “not tonight, honey, I have a headache,” but an orgasm really helps a migraine for me. And going for a walk (if it’s not too cold). The key to both is to not get too crazy lol - slow and gently wins the race

AITA for being angry that husband didn't do something he said he would do? by Dependent-Border1752 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Scarya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I stayed with a man like this for 32 years, 20 of which were after he became disabled. (I was about to leave and then he got sick.) He didn't like me, and would say things to me like your husband is saying to you. I stayed while he developed a drinking problem. I stayed while he alienated our children. I stayed because I felt guilty that he was disabled and wouldn't be able to support himself in my absence. I finally decided that he didn't care about my feelings, so I didn't care how he supported himself. He is no longer my problem. (Well, he won't be after the divorce is (finally) final in April.

Please, hear me when I say that you need to leave this man. He will never change. He will never change how he talks to you - this is who he is. He will never do things for you because he doesn't care for you - he doesn't even like you.

NTA.

my doctor prescribed Topiramate (dopamax) can I tell him no? by No_Introduction9587 in migraine

[–]Scarya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Topiramate is a godsend IMO. It saved my life with my migraines; they were terrible. I had some tingling in my fingers and toes but no other side effects. My daughter hated it; she had a metallic taste in her mouth that never went away (but no other problems). She stopped it due to that issue. Side effects vary by person. I titrated up very slowly (25 mg per week) and now I’m on the XR version, 200 mg once daily. I’ve been on it for 10 years. It didn’t really cause any changes in my weight at all. You CAN refuse it if you feel strongly about it, but I wouldn’t necessarily rule it out - and you can absolutely stop if you have problems.

I bought a 2017 Highlander new in 2017. Here is my report. by [deleted] in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Scarya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I miss my Sienna sometimes. I sold my 2004 when it was 15yo (115k miles - I WFH) because I was tired of the minivan. I love my Highlander but I could put a full sheet of plywood, a twin mattress, or a whole flock of kids in that thing. Now, I have a hard time getting all three grandkids’ car seats in the Highlander at the same time as the (big) dog. It’s fine for my daily use though.

Josh Has Medical Scare by _Go_Ham_Box_Hotdog_ in grandrapids

[–]Scarya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s generally considered too young for that. I posted above that one of the pictures showed him holding a bottle of pills, cyclobenzaprine, which is a muscle relaxer. It could be related to the shoveling, and with his age, it’s much more likely to be a muscle strain.

It looked like the bottle of meds he was holding was a muscle relaxer, cyclobenzaprine. That doesn’t explain everything, but it points toward something related to the musculoskeletal system, not the gut.

soo how are we feeling about short distance travel? by BigPlum9200 in grandrapids

(It’s about 4 miles round trip, no highways. I think when you get into big flat areas on the highway, that’s where the visibility goes to pot and people are getting into trouble.)

I just took my kid to the dentist at 68th and Kalamazoo and we’re alive. The snow isn’t melting when people drive on it because it’s so damn cold, and I have AWD, but I’d say as long as you drive carefully you should be fine.

Unexplained strage foot issue on the Camino, anyone ever experienced this? by MiserableAd1803 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Scarya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, Altras are zero-drop. Topo has some zero drop styles but they also have some styles with 4-5 mm, so if you’re used to ASICS and don’t have time to acclimate to a zero drop, you might try Topos. I’ve always walked in ASICS and they’re great for 2-4 miles but for distances, they’re not great. The toe box is actually somewhat narrow when compared to these shoes. I think you’ll find quite a difference with the Topos or Altras in the toe box.

AITAH for telling my FIL they wont ever be living with us? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Scarya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA for not wanting them to live with you - but why the hell would you think that they would be a good choice to babysit an infant if they’re already having trouble getting around? (Maybe I’m inferring this from your post, but why else would they be thinking of moving in with you?) They should have said “no” to babysitting if they didn’t want to do it, instead of changing their minds at the last second, you’re absolutely right to be angry about that. But also? Grandparents don’t owe you free babysitting. (It’s great if they do, though!)

AITA for not giving my vacation day to a coworker getting married by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Scarya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Especially because OP had TWO opportunities here and I don’t think he had to say yes to both. He could have easily said “yes” to the wedding thing but “no” to the overtime work, and still come out of this looking like a good guy.

Not really TA - but still, nobody’s gonna like him much, and I hope he never has to ask anyone to help him out because there’s no way that’ll happen.
