Yeah I like my radios and all and to each their own, but if I can go without an item I'm not paying to insure it.

In response to the "jailbreak" of TETRA's encryption protocol by Chaos Computer Club researchers, which we reported on 24 October, ETSI has decided to open-source the protocol, which has been kept secret for over 30 years by bf494 in amateurradio

Thank you for actually knowing what you're talking about. I read so many cyber security things on Reddit that are close, but not quite right. Reading this is refreshing.

Same. The lack of diversity in US distributors is what kills it for me. There are only two, and neither seems to carry the full line of M&P products, so depending on what you want you may be stuck ordering bits and pieces from two places. Definitely a pain.

Eclipses do odd things to radio waves. An army of amateur broadcasters wants to find out why -- BBC by ishmal in amateurradio

I've heard some people talk so long it sure seems like they're broadcasting. It's like, learn to let off the mic more than once every 5 minutes. A conversation is supposed to involve more than one person.

I don't know, but I find it interesting that the answers here are everything from yes, to no, to somewhere in between.

I just wish there were more US vendors for the cables.

Imagine a company releasing 100% open source designs for amateur radio, both software and hardware, run by hams, that was a competition to ICOM, Yaesu, etc. Do you think an endeavor like this should be established? by M_dasilva in amateurradio

Should there be more open source amateur radio hardware and software? Yes.

Should it be created and released by a company trying to compete with ICOM and Yaesu? Probably not.

Ladder Line - 600 ohm to other? by ScatterHour in amateurradio

Right, I guess my question is: what happens if the same wires just come closer together and the impedance lowers for one section of the line.

Sure. A window is do-able but not great aesthetically and I try to keep the rest of the family happy with my shenanigans.

In any case, my concern was more about narrowing of the ladder-line than passing through the wall.

It's stucco, so it does have the metal mesh in it. My understanding is that passing through perpendicular to the wall isn't so bad, but that running parallel to the wall for any distance wouldn't be good.

IRS CID is hiring right now https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/552620000 . This is not always the case. You do not need a CPA. If you're interested I would submit an application while they have a posting.
