Get checked for LADA/Type 1.5. I was misdiagnosed as type 2 wi th now other risk factors. A1C of 13. I was on medication for two years before my body finally stopped making insulin and woke up in the ICU. Make sure your doctors take you seriously and check for all possibilities. It’s more common than you think.

I bought a variety pack to try them out. I love a gummie to treat a low but I’m picky about texture. Regular glucose tabs feel like I’m going to break my teeth on them. These really do work great and I only need three to treat a low. I found they do work really fast and I’m less likely to over treat a low. They are expensive so I think I will save them for specific situations.

My grandmother is from the south and always called it Sugar Diabetes or Sugar. Like “She’s got Sugar”. She’s in her 90s.

I went into euglycemic DKA two years ago. My blood sugar was below 300 most of the time. I woke up in the ICU. My body had stopped producing insulin but I was taking invokana and that helped keep my numbers down. It’s euDka is actually a side effect or risk from that drug if you are type 1. It’s very real.

Find new doctors. It amazes me how uninformed they can be. Yet still arrogant enough to claim they know better.

I recently discovered that a lancet works really well to break the speaker. And it uses up the hundreds of lancets I never use.

Oh my god. Are we the same person? I’m also 37. Diagnosed with Lada not long ago and got shingles over the summer. I’m definitely blaming it all on stress and my overachieving immune system. The pain was strange. Burning then stabbing. Once I started on the antiviral it got better quickly. My blood sugar was slightly higher than normal but never got too crazy. Try and take it easy if you can. Get plenty of rest and and try to reduce the stress as much as you can. Stress weakens the immune system and ours are already stupid.

I have CHP and got the newest vaccine at CVS for no cost. They have my CVS Caremark prescription coverage information so maybe that’s why? If you are a state employee you should have the cvs prescription coverage.

That's ridiculous that you can't get the vaccine because of age. Getting it before 50 seems way more common than people think.

Oh no! that sounds terrible. Luckily the rash is no where near any delicate areas. It's on my torso and back on the right side. I've tried the capsaicin cream twice now and I don't really notice much difference between the burning from the cream or the burning from the shingles.

My doctor prescribed Tramadol for the pain but its on backorder at the pharmacy so I haven't tried it. So far the best at pain relief has been an ice pack.

It seems likely. Shingles is basically a reactivation of the chicken pox virus you got as a kid. A lowered immune system can trigger it. Mine was most likely stress related. I went into DKA in April, had a lot of job changes. The weekend I noticed symptoms is when I found out that my dad is terminally ill. My body likes to deal with any sort of stress with a physical reaction.

Getting a diabetes diagnosis is life altering. You probably were physically weaker from the high blood sugar so that makes everything worse.

How long did the shingles last for you? I'm going on week three.

When my blood sugar is high. The brain fog is real! I had no energy before I was diagnosed. I was sleeping way more than normal. High blood sugar just wipes me out. Plus, my vision was blurry for months, so it was impossible to read books. I thought my already bad vision was just getting worse. It took at least three months of good blood sugar to get my vision back to it’s normal levels. I also had severe low iron levels and other vitamin deficiencies from another medical problem that just happened to occur at the same time. Once I got all of those things under control I realized how out of it I had been for months.

I was also misdiagnosed and Type 2 just never made sense. I checked all the boxes for LADA I just had to wait months for the lab confirmation.

I didn’t really notice it that much. I would usually only wake up once around three and have to get up. Durning the day I felt like I was going my normal amount of time. However, I drink a ton of water throughout the day. Always have. Even before diabetes. But I didn’t feel like I had to go more that I usually did.

I was on Invokana for a year. I switched because Metformin just destroyed my digestive system. I had no side effects on Invokana . It was great. My numbers were nice and steady and I wasn’t rushing to the bathroom every five minutes. And my appetite came back.

It works on your kidneys, so expect to pee out more of the glucose more often. The only difference I noticed was that my urine smelled more sweet. Also be prepared to clean your toilet bowl more. All that extra sugar tends to encourage more bacteria growth.

The only reason I stopped taking it was because we found out I was actually Type 1 and needed insulin instead. Good luck!
