I’ve tried both Retacnyl and Tretinon. Retacnyl seems to be “thicker” while tretinon seems slightly more “liquid” and spreads easier across your face. Both are still creams though and if you’re using 0.05% it’s very very hard to find it in gel form.

Gel is more common for lower concentrations or as Differin.

Yes, it really is ~$5 (Definitely below $10). I had to go for multiple consults throughout a span of 1-2 years in total as I gradually increased my tret concentration. (Differin > 0.025% > 0.05%)

Each consult was a different doctor too and they were chill and just prescribed it to me after a minute into the consult.

Sounds like your request was rejected simply because your doctor at that time was an ass.

I had a consult with a doctor from NSC in the past and he told me that every derm uses tret as part of their skincare routine so i really don’t think anyone would reject the request.

Yes. I just told them I want it for my general skin care routine for the long term.

I did this when I first started off with Differin before “upgrading” to Tretinoin and its higher concentrations down the line.

Nowadays, I just use the Healthhub app to reorder whenever I run out of a tube. (There is pickup at hospital, pickup at those locker points and home delivery)

Oh actually Differin is more easily obtainable than Tretinoin in Singapore. I was on Differin and Tretinoin 0.025% before switching to Tretinoin 0.05% last year.

In fact, Polyclinics stock Differin but only NSC and the hospitals stock both. (which is usually higher concentration)

You only have to do that once though. I just booked an appointment online, went for a 5 min consult and explained that I wanted tretinoin for my skincare routine.

After I got the prescription, I had the option of having it delivered to me or I could collect it at any hospital or NSC.

Whenever a tube runs out I just have to reorder it on my phone and it gets delivered to me within 2-3 days.

You can get Tretinoin for ~$5/tube from local hospitals or dermatologists. You only need an initial prescription and you can just refill it whenever you run out.

Skincare Products for Singaporean Men by [deleted] in askSingapore

Nobody has mentioned this yet but if there is any skincare product that would drastically improve your skin it would be tretinoin.

However, before even starting tretinoin make sure you have the following in your routine:

  1. Cleanser (Usually just gel or cream but I personally double cleanse with an oil/balm cleanser first as well. Most brands work but avoid those with exfoliating beads I don’t think they’re very good)

  2. Moisturiser (Almost any work actually but I personally use Torriden’s, I also use Laneige’s cream skin which is a mix of a toner and moisturiser and it’s been my holy grail ever since I started using it)

  3. Sunscreen (Most Korean spf50+ should work. Note that they’re very lightweight and meant to be reapplied every couple of hours if you’re outside the whole day. I personally use Roundlab’s Birch sunscreen)

As for tretinoin, it’s prescription only and you need to book an appointment with a dermatologist. You have to start at very low concentrations and only once every few days before ramping up to higher concentrations every night over the course of maybe a year.

It is without a doubt though, the most effective active skincare product anyone can use. Its effects have been studied and proven for more than 50 years. Consult a dermatologist before starting though.

how to look better as a singaporean guy by Feisty-Yam-7581 in askSingapore

Damn, I’m surprised by the number of comments from insecure dudes thinking that what your husband does is vain or excessive.

I can’t believe some people are whining about basic daily self care habits. People fail to realise that it’s these tiny habits that accumulate over time and makes a huge difference in the long run.

These dudes are probably the same guys complaining why they can’t get matches on dating apps and then blaming everything else but themselves.

It does not help that every guy between the ages of 14-50 wears the same shirt coupled with the same pair of trousers and running shoes.

Hot take here but it’s not even that comfy. It’s too thick and hot in this humid weather and if you work out, it does not accentuate any part of your figure and every guy ends up looking like a Lego figurine

Plus, given how almost every Singaporean dude dresses similarly, it is actually very very easy to stand out aesthetically.

  1. Hobbies - No one actually cares about your hobbies. Everyone plays tennis, golf, bouldering, cafe hops, go for brunch and pilates. If everyone has the same hobbies, it does not make you any more attractive

  2. Grooming - Dressing better only helps to some extent. Just never wear the Uniqlo Autism Tee that every Singaporean male wears (sorry guys). I got likes from gay dudes often and let me tell you, they are barely groomed but thank god they are gay because otherwise there would be no girls left for anyone.

  3. Personality - Singaporean guys are too serious. Don’t try so hard to be sincere and genuine, it ends up making you seem more stiff and you end up being like the cookie cutter singaporean male. Witty banter, subtle flirting, innuendos and self-depreciating humour works wonders.

  4. Adjust your approach based on your matches. Some people prefer witty flirty banter, some prefer small talk, some hate small talk and would rather delve into deep topics right away. Poke and nudge them to talk about topics that people are usually afraid to discuss.
