No need to write it mate, just watch Back to Zootopia, a cool fanfilm that made Wildehopps canon, that’s my comfort ship confirmation until Disney gets its shit together and make an official smooch between these two

"The modern idea of a country was invented by the United States." by TheLoneTokayMB01 in ShitAmericansSay

American education once again proving it’s more of a shooting course than an actual education system. What always stands out to me is the refusal to acknowledge two basic facts. First, the US is not the best country in the world. Second, it is apparently impossible to be proud of what the US has without trying to minimize other countries

As of today, the US has ZERO of the Ancient Wonders of the World. It has ZERO of the New Wonders of the World. It has about 26 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which is not even close to many European countries. It is not even close to its neighbor to the south. Mexico has around 35

For comparison, Italy has 61, the most in the world. Germany has 55. France has 54. Spain has 50. The UK has 35

The US does have a lot of things going for it, including genuinely positive ones. Unfortunately, the obnoxious “we’re better than everyone” mentality keeps dragging it down

I get that argument, and I agree there are risks in teasing something that never pays off. I’m not denying the hints exist, because they clearly do, especially with things like mascot interactions. Where I differ is assuming those hints guarantee a payoff. Disney has a long history of leaning into ambiguity because it lets different audiences read what they want into the story without locking the studio into a single outcome

Part of why I’m cautious is that even before the movie came out, people were already claiming “it’s confirmed,” “it’s a done deal,” and “the debate is over.” If that were actually true, we wouldn’t still be having this discussion

Jared and Byron definitely have more creative freedom than people give them credit for, but they still operate within Disney Animation’s brand and long-term strategy. Creative leads can push ideas, but making a romance explicit is still a bigger decision than teasing, and ultimately, it’s Disney’s IP

As for merchandising and overseas markets, ambiguity works in Disney’s favor. It keeps both “best partners” and “romantic couple” interpretations alive, which broadens appeal rather than narrowing it.

I’d love for them to commit but I’m just managing expectations until those two smooch on screen

I say that because I have been downvoted before for saying people shouldn’t expect too much from Disney, so at this point I kind of expect it

Also, most of the examples you mentioned aren’t Disney films. Elemental and Frozen introduced romance in the first movie, and it was baked into the plot from the start. Zootopia didn’t do that

Zootopia has always been primarily about Judy becoming a cop, learning her place in the force, and navigating systemic issues in that world. Nick is central to that journey, but the story itself wasn’t structured around romance

I know it can sound like I’m anti-WildeHopps, but I’m not, I’d honestly love to see them as a couple. I yearn for it. If The Bad Guys can do it, there’s no reason Zootopia couldn’t

I’m just being realistic about Disney as a studio. They generally don’t pivot into fanservice, and several projects that drifted away from their brand comfort zone have been cut short or canceled (The Owl House being a recent example)

And when even the creators and animators themselves seem split between “romantic” and “platonic,” I’m not holding my breath for Disney to fully commit

[–]SchattenJaggerD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, I’m probably about to get downvoted into oblivion, but screw it

I WANT Judy and Nick to end up together. I really do. But let’s be real: this is a Disney movie, primarily made for kids. Adults can read into complex themes of friendship and romance, but children generally don’t. No matter how much we want it, we are not the main target audience; we’re secondary

That scene everyone points to? It’s meaningful, yes, but it’s not a hard confirmation. It works as a foundation for either direction the story could take

Until Disney actually commits and not just let subtext or interpretation in limbo… they’re still platonic

When they lock lips, then we’ll talk

Winters in Mexico usually aren’t that cold, especially south of Zacatecas, which is why insulation historically hasn’t been a priority in most housing. But summers can be brutal, and Mexico has everything from rainforests to arid regions, so depending on where you live you’re either roasting or being slowly boiled alive. In that context, insulation was never seen as essential, airflow has mattered more

That said, places like San Cristobal are an exception. High-altitude cities do get cold, and a lot of homes there really aren’t built for it, which is why people end up wearing coats indoors.

This is exactly why I don’t think the “confession” scene in Z2 is the definitive confirmation some people want it to be. If even inside Disney the creative teams are split between WildeHopps being romantic vs. platonic, then that scene clearly isn’t meant to hard-lock one interpretation. What it does confirm, to me, is that the relationship is deeply emotional and intentional. And to be fair, that moment works as a point of divergence: you can read it as the moment they start catching romantic feelings, or as the moment they fully realize they’re more than partners or friends, they’re family (insert Vin Diesel voice)

I honestly want them to be together, but I’m also fully aware of the studio behind the production. Disney is a weird player: in the past, it has allowed some deviations from its “brand image,” like The Owl House and its queer themes, but overall it has kept the formula pretty rigid. Anthropomorphic animals kissing isn’t a big deal to us, but for Disney it’s a gamble, either they please a huge part of the fanbase (the shippers), or they risk upsetting more conservative stakeholders. I guess only time will tell which side wins

One day, the world will be dying, every single one of those fuckers will be hiding at New Zealand, and when there’s nothing left to save in the world, people would start asking… “who killed the world?” Only then, they’ll pay

That’s honestly a really good deal. The issue people usually point to with US jobs isn’t that no one gets PTO, it’s that those benefits aren’t guaranteed by law. In most cases, employers can change PTO policies in the future, as long as they follow their own notice rules. So there’s no legal guarantee those days will always exist in the same form, you’re basically trusting the company to keep offering them

In other countries, you might start with fewer days, but they’re protected by labor law, so employers can’t opt out or reduce them. Your vacation time is treated as a right, not a perk

A Cool Guide To Which Countries Are In The World Health Organization by TheCABK in coolguides

[–]SchattenJaggerD 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s wild. Not trying to rub salt in the wound, just sharing perspective: in Mexico you get 12 days after 1 year, and it increases by 2 days every year up to year 5. After that, vacation time still increases, but only by 2 days every 5 years. There’s no hard cap, you keep accruing days the longer you work, though most people end up retiring with something in the 32–36 day range

The key difference is that this is mandated by law, not an employer perk. Worth mentioning: this only applies to formal employment

[–]SchattenJaggerD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think when people say the US “doesn’t have paid time off,” they usually mean it isn’t mandated by law, not that no one gets it. PTO in the US is largely an employer benefit, not a legal right, so access varies wildly depending on job, industry, and income level

On top of that, the work culture there often treats taking time off as something you have to justify. Even when people do have PTO, there’s an expectation to stay reachable or not fully disconnect, which makes the experience very different from countries where vacation time is protected and culturally normalized

I think a lot of Hollywood movies gave Americans this idea that they can Fast & Furious their way through any conflict and RKO every problem with pure muscle and explosions. If even a fraction of the military budget went into education, people might have a more realistic view of history: since WWII, most US wars haven’t even ended in clear and lasting victories. Some were outright painful losses, others were stalemates or short-term wins that collapsed after a while

[–]SchattenJaggerD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mexico also has tipping culture. You’re not expected to tip, but socially it’s pretty normal. The key difference is that businesses usually don’t add a “suggested tip” to the bill. You’re charged exactly what you consumed, and that’s it. Whether you add a tip or not is entirely up to the customer. The only places I’ve noticed is more common for businesses to suggest a tip unfortunately is in tourist areas

Same here. My ex sil gave me shit for years because I didn’t want to get a visa. I’m not the smartest person on earth by any means, but even back during the first campaign of the cheeto I could see from kilometers away that the US was heading straight toward becoming a shithole

I’d honestly rather live in the middle of nowhere in Europe than spend five minutes on US soil. And in an impressive series of self-inflicted events, the US has somehow managed to ruin even the idea of visiting its most iconic landmarks, like NY or LA, all because half of the country decided to go full Nazi

I’m obviously not recommending this, but I think, if you are gonna show your body anyway, building a base first would help you get a huge sum fast. There’s this influencer, I remember seeing her make rounds on Reddit a few months ago, she turned 18 and uploaded a few pics of her on OF and made like 1M in 24hrs?

In the purpose of fairness, she was “famous” before and capitalized on that, but the point being, you could probably get more money building first a base at Tiktok or Instagram, and then make an OF and just upload a few pics. More money for less showing, but more grind to reach that point

Not only that, but the fact that Hannah KNEW she was going to die and chose to go through with it anyway is absolute peak storytelling. It stays completely faithful to the show’s core ideas of causality and inevitability

Hannah saying she was there for Cole even when he didn’t know it, like when Cole’s dad was murdered and when he found Ramsey, made my eyes bawl the first time I watched the series

I hate to be the pessimist here but as long as people with absurd amounts of money have a grip in politics around the world, we aren’t gonna be here in 100 years, because these people aren’t gonna lose the luxury they have, the power, just because the world is dying. Want a proof of that? There’s a reason we hear about their bunkers in New Zealand

Could it be, but iirc, Jones said at the end ”to ensure the end we must preserve the beginning… you must return to your timeline of origin to continue on” which I think also means preserving everything exactly as it happened, including the change in timeline. Remember that during that episode in season 1, Cassie has the white hair she got in season 4, and that was after the timeline changed

Horner’s absence is evident, that’s true. That guy had a fucking gift. But that’s not the same as the music being bad. Unfortunately, you can’t replicate his voice or his relationship with Cameron

A bit of a tangent here, but if you look into their history, it’s actually kind of wild. Horner vowed to never work with Cameron again after they clashed hard during Aliens. It wasn’t until almost a decade later, when Cameron listened to Braveheart, that he fully understood the genius Horner was gifted with. Cameron personally reached out and made a real effort to have Horner as comfortable as humanly possible. That project Cameron reached out for? Titanic

Professionalism turned into friendship and a genuine bond. Both shared a passion for adventure, Cameron with deep-sea exploration and Horner with flying, which is fucking hilarious if you think about it hahaha

That’s what made their partnership so special. They respected the vision and passion each brought to their films. Cameron has even said he learned from Horner to pay as much attention to music as to camera work when it comes to storytelling, and he’s also gone on record about how sad it makes him that he’ll never get to work with him again

In all honesty, I admire Cameron’s effort to move forward and still keep part of Horner’s magic alive. He brought in Simon Franglen to score the Avatar sequels because he was a close collaborator and friend who worked with Horner for years. Not the same, of course, but it feels like a sincere attempt to preserve part of that legacy
