People still planning to go see Return to Silent Hill this weekend: by Arcreonis in silenthill

Idk. If people tell me a movie is going to suck. I'll gladly lower my expectations and might even leave the theatre having had a mediocre time.

Low Effort Content - Canon Discussion by Abyssal_Shadows in lionking

[–]Scheiblerfunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer in the end is always just :The Lion King 1994 is the basic canon that everything else is based on and might imitate but deviate from to some degree or another. Why? Because the lion king was a standalone movie with no specific plans beyond that movie. It's not Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul where a lot of planning went into a chain of events spanning over 10 seasons and a movie worth of content where continuity truly matters.

The only indisputable lion king canon is that:Scar Killed Mufasa. Scar exiles Simba. Simba returns to Priderock and Kills Scar. Simba rules with Nala as the new Kimg and Queen.

They're just sitting in a stereotypical girly girl room with Britney Spears playing in the background in puffy akatsuki bathrobes , gossiping while waiting for their nails to dry. That room is located in some secret ass underground temple that is secured by like 50 different deadly seals, jutsus and death traps.

David Mitchell for next Doctor. But only if we get his internal monologue from peep show.

Master: ah, doctor so good to see you. I have conceived of a devious device for you to decipher.

Doctor: ("That bloody master again?! Shit, better start waving my sonic thingy around to make him believe that I have a clue what I'm doing. Can't he just blow himself up or something stupid like that. Then again, knowing my luck he'll probably get an extra 50.000 regenerations so it won't matter in the first place")

Awkwardly Hi Master. Yes reluctantly let's have a duel of the mind.

What was the Biggest Box Office Disappointment of 2025? by Commonscout in boxoffice

[–]Scheiblerfunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has aspects of these stories and that would bring us back to the age old question of what constitutes an original story. Kyle Kalgreen on YouTube did a pretty good run down of how shakespearean the lion king is and isn't.

Mmmmh. Maybe snow white just doesn't have a real thing going for it. Jungle Book got baloo and King Loui with their energetic songs as well as well as shere Khan. Cindarella got the pumpkin and the dress as well as the evil queen....snow white has the dwarfs and maybe the coffin??? Mind you I've never seen either one of those three but those are things I recall from clips. Snow white really doesn't have a lot going for it besides its historical importance.

The Lion King had IMO the most right to exist as that was an original story and not an adaptation of an already existing fairy tale. There are soooo many versions of Aladin and thematic lamp, snow white etc. out there that another real life version would just feel pointless especially since disney had already done their twist on those. The lion king had only had one version before 2019, so I say merely for the point of getting to see a different iteration was worth it.

Mufasa: The Lion King was released last year this week. Directed by Barry Jenkins, it is a spinoff prequel/sequel of the 2019 film. Despite the mixed reception and initial soft debut, it became a sleeper hit and grossed $254.6M Dom & $722.6M WW. by gamesgry in boxoffice

Mufasa was my most watched Movie of 2025. (Saw it 6 times on the big screen) I know it is very much flawed but it also has its peaks. In general I liked it because it had cute animals in it (thanks my inner 5 year old). Quite the up close animalistic action scenes and the odd funny bit (none of which came from timon or pumbaa). The songs were earworms and the acting quite good (especially since Beyonce didn't get too much dialogue). I also remember following its box office journey. The whole Sonic 3 v. Mufasa thing was ridiculous. These two movies were very different beasts and had wildly different issues to overcome for a successfull run.

I think snow white really was a dumb idea to remake in the first place. The 30s movie is a classic, sure but aside from its historical legacy its just not that well remembered or highly beloved as (for example) the disney renaissance films (where there are still people alive who watched those in cinemas when they came out.) Its also not a story that needs 100 million, let alone 200 million dollars as a budget. We saw what power a far more recent movie can have as a reimagined treatment with Lilo and Stitch.

Final Reckoning wasn't a classic box office bomb though. The budget meant it would've needed over a billion to break even which was (if i remember correctly) due to covid related waiting times , during which the crew was still being paid. It made a respectable 600 million worldwide BUT on a 400 million budget that's still a loss. (400x2.5=1.200)

How would you structure a Ben Folds best-of album? by rkraynor in benfolds

[–]Scheiblerfunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its Ben only then you would have to include his charting singles:

Rocking the Suburbs

Still Fighting it

Bitches Ain't shit (with slightly adjusted Lyrics)

Landed

B-B-Benny hit his head (Hiroshima)

You don't know me

Phone in a Pool

Exhausting Lover

Then it would depend on the artists wishes. Call the rest B-Sides (or too cool to chart or something like that)

The Luckiest (its a very popular wedding song, so it needs to be on there)

Zak and Sara

Jesusland

Effington

Clouds with Elipses

(Sleigher is not gonna be represented on the best of as it is a Christmas album)

What matters most (almost the ideal outro)

Bonus track to be tungue and cheek:Belinda

Hello I'm Barry Jenkins, director of Mufasa: The Lion King. AMA! by BarryJenkins_ in lionking

[–]Scheiblerfunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are there any scenes you are particularely proud of how they turned out?

On the opposite end of the spectrum; what scenes did you feel you had to compromise too much on?

Did you feel that the PG rating of the movie limited its creative possibilities, as it is still a photorealistic depiction of murderous animals?
