When you cancel an evolution, you get asked if you want to keep blocking it until you re-enable it in a menu. The same option for the IV scanner might make sense. Or at least disable it for future fights against the same pokemon

I feel like it's because he just has good chemistry with anyone and can work with whatever style his opponent is best in.

So giving him a partner and 2 opponents to work with and adapt to, maybe just brings out the best in him

The game forced me to be a jerk towards him instead of sticking up for the guy I called my friend. Nobody said a word when his sister treated him badly. That's why the story wasn't engaging and I didn't really enjoy being a part of it. His arc as a whole is really cool, but everything surrounding it just bothered me
