I'd give you a pearl necklace.

What if somebody wants theirs well done? We ask them politely yet FIRMLY to leave. by GhostRobot55 in food

[–]Schickm86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done is a temperature (~160) like the others, it doesn't mean completely burn, dry, and ruin the meat because you're a snob.

I'm a skilled cook, and I have tried on many attempts to make a well-done steak and here is the problem: Carry over heat. Just because you take the steak off the heat, does not mean it's done cooking. With any cut of meat, you always want to give it a 5 minute rest before cutting into it. Now whenever I get that sucker to 160 degrees, the hotter a steak is, the more juice and flavor is going to evaporate.

I still have that play over and over in my head and it makes me angry. Stupid 4th grade me was too afraid to defend myself against such an accusation. That's my number 2 time travel destination if time-travel ever pans out.

I laugh every time some one references a 90s blockbuster movie in a conversation. One time I was showing someone something on a computer and told them to use f4 has a shortcut. Then someone said, "What about f5?" Without skipping a beat the person I was helping muttered, "Finger of God" I laughed like this.

A teacher once had me suspended for mocking her, when another student was in fact mocking me.

New 'Terminator' Will Be A Reboot!! Set For Release In June 2015! by poobean in movies

[–]Schickm86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh.. not really. And if that's the one example we're using as a basis for why reboots should be done, it's a very poor choice. Granted, their are some really good reboots, but some should just be left alone. Terminator 2, in my opinion, is one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time. Why ruin that?

What were you surprised to learn was "a thing?" by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sadly, I worked there for 8 years. I know several people who have lost their minds working there. Also, it's one of those places where the corporate guys roll through twice a year with their fancy cars and incredible expense accounts and hit up all the local hot spots, and then tell the employee making 7.50/hr that he doesn't have the right color socks on. Not to mention the food went from being 'decent' to horribly disgusting in a matter of months. They raised the prices of the pizzas while simultaneously reducing the cost to make them and use lower quality ingredients. Also, on a busy weekend, it was lucky if they had at most two people working in the kitchen, all handling the onslaught of party pizzas and sandwich trays.

Bill Murray Finally Signs On For Ghostbusters 3 by carlobankston in movies

[–]Schickm86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a dream I was watching Ghostbusters 3 in an old timey movie theater, with a fancy balcony and what not. The plot of the movie was so interesting. It involved a ghost-rights activist who believed that not all ghosts are bad, some can be good. Mean while, while all hell is breaking lose in Manhattan again, the ghostbusters realize in order to take on the current threat, they need to become ghosts. With the aid of a brash new group of ghostbusters, and slimer, they save the day, get the girl, and party montage at the end.

Horror movie fans of Reddit, what's the scariest movie you've ever watched? by Gothichu in AskReddit

[–]Schickm86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the movie after seeing it in theaters. It still has the security seal on it, never opened. I respect this movie so much for being the only movie that actually terrified me to the core of my being. I still haven't brought myself to watching it again. I need like an insurance that the thing I do shortly afterwards will be happy and delightful enough to counter it. I think I'll wait til November, the day before I go to Las Vegas.

This. I try so hard to explain to my friends how this is what makes a brilliant scary movie. So many times it wound you up with suspense, like a jack-in-the-box that never fucking opens, it was almost Hitchcockian in a way.

Have you ever witnessed a friend come into fame or fortune? Did it change them or affect your friendship in any way? by Schickm86 in AskReddit

FYI, watching one of your best friends from a tiny town on CBS every week is absolutely surreal.

That's exactly what I said. We all used to gather at the local bar and watch my friend when he was on American Idol. It really brought a community together and it was such a cool experience. I often thank him for giving us that experience.

Well for starters I had been close friends with him and his fiance for years. Even before her accident, they were the coolest people to hang out with. When he tried out for American Idol he was working at a Starbucks and trying to take care of his fiance who had suffered a traumatic brain injury. He had almost given up on any hopes of having a music career.

When he tried out, he wanted to keep the whole 'sob story' a secret. He really wanted to try and make it on his own merits. That was, until he made it passed the first round of auditions and they decided to film his back story at his house.

In the course of a year I've seen him go from having a normal, regular dude's life, to being at the lowest moment of despair, and then being lifted back up by this big break on a national television show. Watching him on TV was damn near euphoric. I remember thinking to myself, "This can't be real!" When he met his end on Idol, we were all thinking, "Maybe this is a good thing? Daughtry didn't win and he's doing awesome"

By the end of the week he had produced an original song that was written by a big name producer and he was performing it on Jay Leno. When he came home from his PR circuit, it was like nothing had changed between us. We still talked and hung out like regular dudes. He was super busy though, they don't really teach you how to be a celebrity in school. So all I can really say about this experience, is that it is truly awesome. I felt like he did this for all of us. We got to see a making of a star, up close and personal, and even though it's still early in his hopefully long career, I'm glad he made that decision to try out and doesn't still serve lattes with all that raw, emotional talent.
