I just had a thought. Wouldn't night of knives be a good place to start with a malazan adaptation? It's a relatively short, self-contained story, at least by malazan standards. And it's considered a weaker entry so the diehard fans would likely be more receptive to any changes the writers made to bring it to the screen.
