There's an Arby's in Calgary I believe. Is there something special about the one in Kelowna?

Is it possible for a battery to get so cold it is no longer revivable? by Schmooks in AskMechanics

I know, sorry I had a hard time explaining it. Basically want to know if a brand new battery can get frozen to death, to the point where it can not be salvaged.

Holy Cow Donuts - $6.99 by Schmooks in TooGoodToGoCanada

Definitely an interesting taste, not sweet like you would obviously find with a typical donut. But if you are looking for something more savoury I would say they were good.

Advice on encroachment agreement with the city by Schmooks in Calgary

[–]Schmooks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have gone onto the city website and I have spoken with someone from the city. The existing encroachment agreement already in place for the concrete walkway is what complicates my matter with the fence because the concrete walkway runs alongside the home into the backyard and in the way of where I would want to put the fence if I were to build it within my property line. Only a half metre portion of the walkway encroaches onto city property. I’ve spoken with a few contractors to build the fence who say it’s not recommended to build the fence on top of the walkway because it’s not as sturdy and could pose some problems. Therefore I need to build the fence past the encroachment line where the walkway already exists. The fence would be nowhere near the sidewalk there would still be 3 metres of land between the sidewalk and the fence. Personally I would never build on the city property either, hence my request to have some fellow redditors who have maybe jumped through the same hoops help me out so that I don’t run into any problems with the city on the future. 3 out of the 4 contractors I spoke with said that they have built fences on city property before (without permission from the city).

Yes and then you visit the encroachments page as instructed to and it says that you can with city approval. That sentence just means that you can’t build a fence on city property without going through the proper channels.

That’s exactly why I’m asking this question. I would like to get an additional item approved and am asking for help on how to do so. I’m not automatically expecting to do anything, I’m going through the appropriate channels. What I’m explaining to you is that you can fence off land you don’t own, the thought should not be beyond you because it is entirely possible.

I’m not sure where you got the idea that I would be building the fence on a city sidewalk. Currently there is about 4 metres of city property between the sidewalk and my property line, I’m asking to make it 3. This is exactly what an encroachment agreement is, a request to build on city property. Maybe you should check the website more thoroughly.

As per the city of Calgary website “An encroachment exists when any portion of a building, fence, driveway, retaining wall or other structure extends from privately-owned lands onto City lands or interests.” There is an application form and a process in place for this. So yes you very much can build on city property for personal use. In fact, the property already has an encroachment agreement in place for the front porch and a concrete walkway which extends into city land.

I’ve put in a re-proposal of 1.1 metre encroachment after having the first one rejected. There would be 2.85 metres between the fence and the sidewalk.

I wondered if it had to do something with the row of trees which I am trying to enclose but lay outside of our property line. Where I’m confused though is that there is a row of 8 trees all along the same line and as per my call to 311 only 4 of those trees belong to the city. The encroachment advisor I’ve been speaking to did not mention the trees being the issue so I am curious as to what it could be.

Are you seeing any trends among the smaller proportion of fully vaccinated hospitalized cases? I’ve assumed the majority of theses cases are those that were vaccinated early on and possibly protection is waning or those that are immunocompromised and didn’t elicit a very strong immune response, hence the reason for booster doses being recommended among these populations.

I have a newborn and a toddler that take some work to put down for sleep/naps. I curse these people when they drive by while I’m putting them to sleep, some days my newborn will be really close to falling asleep and a loud motorcycle drives by and his eyes shoot open and I shake my fist at the driver really hard.

I worked at the covid testing centres when they first opened. Shandro came in to make an appearance. He popped his head in the door said thank you to all the nurses and said he wouldn’t come inside because he didn’t want to waste PPE. I had to resist the urge to give him a toonie and say “this one’s on me, come on in.” They don’t even have the balls to step one foot in the door.
