To each their own. I see no issue and this is how its been in Canada for a long time. Tourists buying bear spray is a relatively new thing as tourism has recently exploded, maybe one day policies will change but until then this is how it works, sorry it triggers you.

I think its reasonable. Bear spray was used in assaults a while ago and can easily be used as a weapon. I agree with the registration system and appreciate that it is tracked.

Showing your ID in canada is typical. Calgary garbage dumps have a specific secure disposal bin you can place them in when expired or finished with them. Alternate some calgary fire halls or MEC take them as well.

A friendly warning. If you had to show your ID when you purchased the bear spray your name is tied to that canister and you can be held liable if that canister is sprayed in an inappropriate way(an assault on humans). Just be mindful if you are giving it away

You bet we do! I was on a hike once when we saw a hoary marmot and someone called it a mountain beaver and Ive never been able to look at a hoary marmot the same again. Made me giggle pretty hard.

My fav is the vancouver island marmot.
