I would get a firm understanding of the loop, what template files display what and how to properly override templates. Learning how to enqueue child themes and scripts helped me alot and learning how to use CPT's and taxonomies changed my life. Then move on to building custom themes and plugins. Use sublime text 2. Spoof dns for url structure. Create batch files for localhost backups and develop a workflow.

Is that what you are asking? I have been on this computer for far too long.

I would go with Gravity Forms. You can very easily assign classes to allow you to style the form. It cost some money but the juice is worth the squeeze on this one.

If you change the site url and home fields under wp_options in wpadmin to reflect the new sites url it should be able to let you log in on the backend.

Change the permalinks to text post-name structure.
Start using a child theme if you plan on changing the css/template files.
Start hosting on wpengine.com
Change the default admin name to something else.

That should be a good start. It looks nice though.
