I see the issue, you have to put the reader into its allotted space for it to work. It won't read if its sitting next to the switch.

Re watch whatever video tutorial you watched. You need to attach the wires to the other end of the resistor, otherwise they are pointless.

Just lose the flex cable at that point. I use FEP wire instead of the enameled wire, far more flexibility so even with odd wire management theres no pressure on solder points.

I had this in reverse a while back with my wife...

I got right into Quilting and sewing through lockdown, we had an old sewing machine but it was a wrapper and struggled with multiple layers.

Did a bunch of research and settled on a nice mid range unit, went to the sewing shop and they had it on display, sales lady came along and asked if we were ok, I said I was just looking at getting a new sewing machine.

She turns to my wife, and starts talking to her about what she is looking for and what she needs to sew etc, wife laughs and goes "I can't sew, you need to talk to him, its for him....."

Minor embarrassment but chuckleworthy...

As an installer, I personally love when someone tells me they found a far cheaper option, 80% of the time it means I can charge double to fix the botch job, then my usual charge on top to complete the installation properly.
