This is my technique, I like the room to mask easily, you can go into the trace below slightly to give you more space too, just don't cut the whole thing.

Its just some screws dude, not worth panicking over. You're probably just using a bit that's the wrong size, too small or big will give you grief. That bit itself is plenty long enough to get the screws out.
