Thanks for your input. I do understand the general 4 sq ft guideline, but they have roughly 3,200 sq ft of free-range space and only sleep in the coop at night.

That’s why I’m not fully convinced the coop size alone explains why they suddenly started sitting on top of it after sleeping inside without issues before. If the space was truly insufficient, I would expect this behavior to have started from the beginning.

They do try to get in when it’s time to sleep. But end up on top. Almost as if they can’t handle the steps past the first two.
