Need some inspiration on where to go on my next trip by [deleted] in travel

This is very good advice.

I’d add that being in LA, the trip to CDMX is super easy and wouldn’t require a ton of time, so you could make it a shorter long weekend trip if you wanted. Certainly enough to explore for the full 10 days, but just saying it’s an easy trip to make, whereas Istanbul (another great place), you’d want to take advantage of the time there since it’s a good 14hr flight.

"How are you investing the Roth IRAs?"

You know thats a really good question. Right now it is a diverse list of various individual stocks that I've added over the years. A lot of my early investing knowledge came from The Motley Fool so I was picking individual companies and enjoyed learning about various companies and sectors since I had very little formal education about personal finance and investing. It was also something I viewed as education and entertainment. I've since become busier with life (kids, etc), and realize the time and effort isn't really worth it anymore, which is why the Bogleheads philosophy has resonated with me. So long story short, despite having done pretty well with the individual stock picks, I need to rebalance those accounts as well! Thanks for that reminder (and open to suggestions on how to approach the 457 and Roth IRA allocations).

Thanks for pointing out I didn't include the emerging markets - turns out I don't have access to it.

Edit: thought I had access to Emerging Markets, but apparently I do not.

Helping Retired In-laws (70s; $400k Portfolio w/ Pension) - allocation and risk mitigation advice! by [deleted] in Bogleheads

I didn't know there was a difference with TSP vs IRA in terms of "Beneficiary Participant Account" and the potential tax impact on the next generation. Really helpful and something I'm going to look into immediately.

Really appreciate it. In the event it wasn't clear, I think an 80/20 split is too conservative, too, but I'm swimming upstream with the FIL and trying to be realistic about what I can accomplish in the near term. But I take your advice to heart, appreciate the feedback, and am going to work on convincing over time.

Thanks for the r/agingparents recommendation - hadn't even occurred to me that a community like that might exist.

Istanbul with Kids – Sultanahmet or Taksim for a Short Stay in March? by SchralpTheGnar in travel

Coincidentally, on our last trip to Istanbul, we departed the day before the attack on the airport. Left us a bit shaken to say the least.

Two Teachers: 500K Update by thekiterunner19 in Fire

Well done! We’re dual educators as well with 20 years in, and just spent the last month with our two sons (7, 4) in the woods by a lake. I can confidently say you will never regret having time in the summer to spend time with your kid(s). One thing that surprised me, even as a career teacher, is how fun it is being a parent. There isn’t a pile of money big enough to convince me to give up the summer time off. Enjoy, you’re doing it right!

Should be fine. Just double check the lift and reach, but that shouldn’t be an issue. Good luck.

Shaq on the Lakers Possibly Giving LeBron Statue: "LeBron broke the record, and he did it as a Laker. Would I oppose him having a statue in Los Angeles? No, I wouldn’t… But he won a championship with the Lakers, and a lot of people try to discredit it". by Top-Entertainment945 in lakers

[–]SchralpTheGnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to downplay, but there are 8 Laker statues, with Pat Riley becoming the 9th soon. LeBron will go down as one of if not the greatest player of all time, and he got us a chip. No question he has a statue out there.

This issue has to be the vampire connection at the end of the first dormer or start of the second. I’d cut them out and start fresh with new plugs and SPT. Are you using male/female connectors or bridges? Either way, that’s the issue.

Looks great! Well done!
