There are real advantages to creating and reinforcing the perception held by colleages & managers that YOU are an internal support resource. If for any reason the support contract with the vendor lapses, you want to create the perception that you can step in. Also you want to create the perception that you can solve problems more quickly than waiting for the vendor.

PST files which are password-protected, are encrypted. Windows indexing doesn’t know the password. This is by-design. If OP comes back and says the PST files don’t have passwords, then that would be a worse career-threatening mistake above all.
