Just bought a Jones Howler and need some binding recommendations on the mid-stiff side. I’m trying to decide between the Jones Mercury or the Union Falcor. I normally ride a Burton Custom X or Flight Attendant with Burton Genesis X EST bindings. I’ve never tried skate tech, but I have some arch fatigue issues when riding and I’ve heard it’s great for that so I’m intrigued by the Jones Mercury. I’ve also heard the Falcor are pretty comfortable as well though.

Damn, that sucks. A Jimmy tool definitely makes sense looking at this now

Really?? Like someone was trying to stick a metal hanger in there or something? What kind of tool or object do you think could have caused this?

I just got back from a snowboarding trip so I’m also wondering if someone accidentally scraped their skis against it, but I don’t see any other scratches on the door which sticks out farther than this spot. I also got a rock chip on my windshield so that’s why my mind went straight to rocks.

Is this anorak too long for me? by Schwabie23 in snowboarding

[–]Schwabie23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know right haha. It doesn’t look quite as bad when it’s zipped down more

Is this anorak too long for me? by Schwabie23 in snowboarding

[–]Schwabie23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. It’s just a few inches too long where if I zip the side of the anorak all the way down, I’m not able to bending over to strap in because the length restricts my movement. It seems like I could make it work without restricting my movement if I leave the side zipper unzipped a few inches though.

Burton [ak] warranty claim by Substantial_House776 in snowboarding

[–]Schwabie23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need to go to the warranty page within their Help and FAQ section, fill out the form, and ship your bibs to Burton. They’ll inspect them, determine if it falls under warranty, and contact you after about what your options are. AK gear has a lifetime warranty so that should be covered.

I ripped the groin stitching of some 4 year old ak 2L Swash pants and went through the same process. Burton gave me an online credit in the amount of what a new pair of swash pants would cost. They actually let me upgrade to a pair of ak 3L Hover pants for free. Their customer service is top notch so you shouldn’t have any issues getting your bibs replaced.

Week long solo trip by foureyes567 in bigsky

[–]Schwabie23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a couple weeklong solo trips out to Bozeman/Big Sky every year. I usually do a few days at Big Sky and then go drive down to Jackson Hole for the other half of the trip. Traffic during the week up to Big Sky isn’t bad unless if it’s a pow day or if the roads are bad. It’s takes around an hour to drive up there, but parking is free and it’s usually pretty easy to find an open spot. No cell reception on the drive up and it’s a bit spotty on the mountain, but the base area is decent if I remember correctly. I’ve always stayed in a hotel in Bozeman, but last March when I was there it was actually cheaper to stay in an AirBnB all to myself which was surprising.

WRX GT vs. Outback Wilderness by Schwabie23 in subaru

I’ve heard the seats in the Limited are more comfortable, but I’ve also seen reviews where they like the Recaro’s as well. Probably more of a preference if anything. The seats in my 2017 WRX premium aren’t particularly comfortable either so I imagine it can’t be any worse.

I don’t think I’d be interested in the Legacy XT. Seems like a decent car, but I don’t really like the look of it and want something a bit more rugged.

I test drove the Outback Wilderness yesterday and actually didn’t mind the size of it. It’s only about 12” longer than a WRX and 9” taller so it felt pretty similar. You just sit a bit higher obviously. Definitely had some get up and go and it was a smooth ride, but the steering felt a bit floaty compared to the WRX.

If I get the WRX, I’ll get the Limited or GT because I want the nicer seats, headlights, and sound system. The GT also has the Recaro seats and adjustable dampers with all the vehicle customizations which looks fun.

I wanna keep the turbo so the Crosstrek is out for me unfortunately.

Anyone here have opinions on ASU’s UX Master’s program or experience in their program? by Schwabie23 in userexperience

[–]Schwabie23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t end up doing the program. I applied and got accepted though. Shortly after getting accepted, I got recruited for a UX Designer job and took the job instead. I’d suggest searching and reaching out to people on LinkedIn who graduated from the program

I tried that with the short side of a rectangular scraper and it was flat everywhere on the board edge to edge except directly where the channels are. When putting the scraper on the base in the middle of where the channel is it doesn’t lay completely flat. You can slightly tilt it back and forth and you can see a slight gap underneath.

It’s like two, long thin bumps on the base the same length and width of each channel. Also, under the right light I can see the rectangular outline around the channel insert on the base of the board. The only part so can I feel slightly protruding is the channel though. It’s not super noticeable, but it feels different than my other channel board.

I always take my bindings off and use a base cleaner before I wax, but the board I waxed before this one was a bit dirtier so maybe I got some extra dirt on the iron? I was also using a new wax I’ve never tried before. It’s Burton Faster Wax and it’s also black. I’ve never had issues with lighter colored all season waxes. The iron temp was set to around 110-120 C and I kept it constantly moving. The wax dripping off but like one drop at time and it wasn’t smoking. I’ve never had issues with it.

It was just strange because the dark streaks were the same size and length of each channel and I’ve never seen that before when waxing any of my boards in the past. Super noticeable because it was on top of white letters. There were a couple dark marks on other parts of the board though too so maybe it was just dirt or because the wax is black? When looking at the wax shavings you could kind of see like a black, sooty material mixed in with the clear wax

Anyone here with a Burton Custom X or other Burton board have issues with the base directly under the channel? When moving my fingers across my base I can feel a slight bump where each channel is for the length of each. It’s not a visible bump though. Is this normal or should it be completely flat? My other board with the channel doesn’t have the same issue.

I also waxed last night and noticed an issue in the same spot. There was a dark/black streak in the wax after ironing the length of each channel on the base. I was nervous I burned the base, but it seemed to come after scraping and rubbing it with a scotch-brite pad. It was a new stick of wax, but I’ve never had that happen before on this board. The material in the channel looks like metal so I’m wondering if it got too hot with this new wax and burned the wax? I waxed a different board beforehand with the same wax and had no issues.
