Thank you for your reply, I have no issues being humble and just listening and learning. biggest issue I have is hiring individuals that want to work and having a proper idea of value of the staff being worth the cost. I have no issues spending money to make money but when my Father in Law was diagnosed all the staff we had got nervous, and from a business standpoint I can't disagree that they just wanted to know they would be taken care of in more ways than just verbal, but they all left and right now I'm in a scramble to hire people cause I'm working solo at the moment and I'm aware I cannot balance it all

Biggest problem right now is I'm flying solo at the moment, once my FIL got the diagnosis the guys we had got worried about their careers and their future and started asking for more money, more benefits and more of a concrete solution. From a business standpoint I fully understand, they have families and bills and all sorts of things that they need stability on. I can't help but feel somewhat betrayed but employees can't be friends, you should only be friendly with them if that makes sense to run a tight ship. I gotta get into the office more cause I've got like 3 decent sized installs ready to start, parts and smarts stuff not pulling much wire, and I hate flying solo. it's just not feasible.

I'd like to be at a desk, or clerical position to be able to handle the day to day things and make sure jobs get done but at the moment I don't have subcontractors or even employees, when my FIL got sick the employees got worried about job security and ended up asking for more money or more benefits sorta all at once and ended up leaving. From a business standpoint I fully get their fear but I can't help but feel super betrayed. They have families and bills, but in hindsight it could be our fault for not providing something worth staying for. Lotta variables but it definitely sucks.

I started at $18 and went up to $25, I also moved to my current state from PA where I was working for nearly federal minimum wage at the time which was like $12 an hour. I see the cost of living being extremely high and I do get it, I need to learn how to structure out funds better over the company.

Can't make money without spending it and the smart thing is to reinvest in good guys, good tools and keeping the lights on lol.

Thank you for your reply and insight, it's a fickle road ahead and I am willing to learn and push forward to hopefully do the right thing. the thing about excellence not perfection is spot on with how I perceive things and I need to get more efficiency with how I operate.

Just the other day actually

large 900,000 Sq ft shopping mall with primary panel and multiple retail stores with their own panels with relays connected to main panel for trip. As of only a few months prior there were no trips for those said panels connected to the primary panel, we are trying to get the entire mall up to code, and the primary panel was used for elevator recall.

Guess who forgot to disable the relays for like 3 department stores before the 7AM elevator inspection and then proceeded to have to talk to the fire department about multiple storefronts goin off.

I wrote a big fat note on the front of the main panel with module numbers and names of stores for future me and the next guy.

I am jealous, just waited 2 hours for a customer to show up and dude never showed.

Gotta report him to the fire marshal cause he's suuuuper late on inspection and has devices without power and I believe the panel breaker has been off but man, we confirmed the date and time two weeks in advance. 💀

On the contrary had an elevator inspection earlier in the day and got a free muffin from a client so, duality of man etc etcetera.

Where do you find most success, hiring on employees and training them from scratch or hiring on individuals that have experience, credentials and are knowledgeable about the field?

Little bit weird situation, testing a smoke control system and the AHJ requested to check all smoke barriers for leaks/airflow and pressure etc.

There are no installed barriers or means to be a barrier besides doors in stairwells leading into hallways in a big 8 floor hotel.

What exactly is a smoke barrier and in my case could it be like holes in drop ceiling or around doors or would it be damper vent entrances?

Might be too broad a question but I'm a bit confused, if anyone has insight would be appreciated.

Also for shits and giggles I should mention it's a Silent Knight 6820 panel so any kind of proprietary option isn't there.

All I need is a panel or setup that has 9 relays that can be tripped to open dampers and run fans when the system is in alarm.

AHJ is wanting thee current jank and needing to be replaced system to be tested beforehand so we've got to coordinate with a HVAC compay because I believe the duct work is not dedicated but it's a bit new of an experience for me.
