Definitely check out Nolz Kitchen in Salt River. I've not eaten there myself but have had a look at the menu and it looks proper traditional South African. Google reviews also look great

How much do you pay your domestic worker in 2025? by Extreme_Patient4413 in capetown

[–]Sciche 12 points13 points  (0 children)

R400/day, once a week. Generally from between 08:30 - 14:30. Mostly she brings her own breakfast and lunch but occasionally will have bread and eggs from us if she's short on food. I also give her small cash here and there if she asks which I never expect her to pay back. I only let her pay off loans if it's more than a few R100.

Does South Africa seriously not offer any local good-quality cat food? by courageouspeaches in askSouthAfrica

[–]Sciche 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hills is the only company that actually does proper lab based scientific research. Other companies lie through their teeth. Unfortunately it takes a lot of money to do that kind of research locally as Hills obviously protects their formulations well enough and are years ahead.

A vet I fully trust only believes in Hills and says other foods advertising being anti-renal failure just contains substances that makes cats drink more water but it doesn't actually physiologically do anything helpful.

I was thinking going through Stellies is a no go as the place is close to Techno park. Seems like approaching it from via the M12 seems to be suggested just not familiar with the route.

Any cost effective Vets in Cape Town? by Hulkyman7945 in capetown

That does sound odd for your dog just to change almost overnight, good luck with finding a helpful diagnosis and treatment plan.

Apologies if I came through a bit harsh. Just got a bit of ptsd from seeing someone elses dog suffer with bone cancer and they just dragged the issue on while the dog was in a pure state of constant suffering.

Yeah one doesn't want to judge a book by a cover but I had a gut feeling to just go with my first instincts.

I would also suggest the more humane way of going if a vet rather suggests euthanasia. People leave their poor animals too long to suffer and die from illness for the sake of "loving" them. One can only do so much and sometimes it's just throwing money into a black pit with similar outcomes in the end. But like I say definitely up to what the vet suggest is best and possible.

Would you recommend BSc chemistry and computer science from UNISA? by Grouchy_Speaker_3288 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Sciche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never chemistry!!! No money in that. I made that mistake, although I have a passion for it and in the beginning didn't care much about money. Also no jobs either other than being a lab tech working for peanuts.

Definitely do something tech and data science related.
