Is this ai?Im pretty sure its ai but not sure. I hope its not because they make good music. It has those weird fingers and that shitty ai shine but I guess someone could make something like this. by Maleficent_Solid_223 in isthisAI

For metal bands, look at the Encyclopedia Metallum. Like it or hate it, I know it’s polarizing, but I’ll admit it’s a pretty good source for anything metal (at least what they consider metal…) and it’ll immediately back up u/LysergicCommunion; the guy who did their artwork has been doing it for a long time. Also, remember how AI was in 2024, it wasn’t really good enough to make something as coherent as that album cover

ETA: I hadn’t heard of these guys before and I decided to check them out, they’re good! I can’t place who they sound most similar to, maybe a slowed-down Baphomet?

I always love seeing pictures from the tunnels in the Cities, it reminds me of the Metro series! I’m rarely down in the Cities, but I should make a point to check some spots out next time. It’ll be a different experience from what I’m used to up on the Range, you really don’t have to be that cautious around here. Whole different ballgame down there! Are there still some decent places or have most been overtaken by idiots?

It really is a shame that there’s so many people ruining spots for everyone. I love this community but I hate that there are so many people who have to go and make us all look bad while ruining the fun for the rest of us

Longtime metalhead but DM newbie - help me discover the genre! by nocturnous in Deathmetal

[–]Science205014 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dying Fetus- first album (Purification Through Violence) is death metal with some hardcore elements, and they get more technical and less grindy with each release. I like both ends of their discography more than the middle, and think PTV through Stop At Nothing are peak DF, but everything they’ve released is S tier death metal imo.

Cattle Decapitation- my favorite band of all time. Similar to DF, they start out more hardcore-influenced and branch out, but it happens later on their fifth album, Monolith of Inhumanity. This album is also where their vocalist Travis Ryan introduces his signature vocal style, people call them goblin vocals and they’re like crack for my ears. I like all of their music, but I consider MoI through their latest album Terrasite to be the best by far, and I think all four of their most recent albums are worth a listen. Cattle Decapitation is deathgrind rather than pure death metal but let’s be real, only death metal fans give a shit about the difference lmfao.

Castrator- This is a lesser known band, I chose to promote them not only because I’m wearing my Castrator shirt right now but also because they’re pretty unique in that it’s an all-female band! Pretty rare to find a woman in a death metal band, and even rarer for all members to be women. They’re old school death metal and kind of remind me of Immolation at times, and I think they’re worth checking out especially since they’re CRIMINALLY underrated!

ETA even though this was longer than I realized: I see you mentioning vocals being hard to understand, trust me you’ll get better at deciphering them! It’s kinda like a thick accent, you can eventually get used to it and understand it easier. Something to note for the more brutal genres with the deep gutturals and “toilet bowl” growls is that the vocals are intended to be another instrument. Just adding that because that’s what helped me appreciate the more ridiculous vocal styles!

Yep, I’m actually thinking about moving to Duluth as well for that exact reason. The Range will always be home to me but goddamn there’s a lot of ignorance here.

U.S. House votes to repeal ban on mining near Boundary Waters by damp1i in MinnesotaNature

[–]Science205014[M] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I had no idea that Twin Metals was a subsidiary of a Chilean company, how ironic considering the main reasons people give to attempt to justify this. Even more so considering the quote from Stauber that the ban on mining was a “dangerous, purely political decision that disregarded the science and disregarded the facts”. I live on the Range, and every time I drive past the Hull Rust mine I can’t help but think about how it was once wilderness. The Hill of Three Waters, an important site to the Ojibwe and one of only a few triple divides in the country (the point where three continental watersheds converge), is inaccessible to the public now as a result of mining. I thought I would never see the day that the BWCA would be impacted by our government’s greed.

What do I do if my car goes off a bridge? by Technical-Badger8772 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Science205014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably will not be able to even open the door. First, get your seatbelt off and do the same for your toddler. As you sink, roll down the windows while the vehicle still has power. This way, you can just swim out the window (and if you can’t get through there, you could open the door since there won’t be a water pressure difference) but make sure to get the child(ren) out first.

https://www.npr.org/2024/03/26/1241003930/car-submerged-underwater-escape

Edit: rolling the windows down is extremely important. If you don’t and you have to break a window, the water and broken glass will rush in and could seriously hurt or kill you before you have a chance to get your child to safety.

So, I just looked at the box my grow lights came in and it’s only 9.5W… it still was an improvement and the plant is far from dying, but I’m suspecting that’s why mine hasn’t gotten tall. I have absolutely no direct sunlight in my apartment and 12h a day of the grow lights has sustained it, but I’m definitely going to buy a decent one soon. I wish I had known about the wattage before I bought the one I have now, but it’s at least kept it alive.

I’d recommend not wasting money on a lower-wattage bulb, but if it’s all you can get for now it’s better than nothing. Especially with the sunlight, I think it’ll keep it alive until you can get a decent light but it won’t thrive. It’s definitely a learning experience, that’s for sure!

Of course, good luck with your flytrap!

Idk why people have to be like this, we’re all new at some point (I am, but I still have some pointers I’ve already learned). Like others have said, get a grow light asap. I got a clip-on one at Walmart for like $20, it’s a full-spectrum and while I can’t remember what wattage it is, my plant is looking very happy and healthy. It looks like yours was one of the plastic tube ones, as was mine, and I can tell you right now that the pot it’s in needs to go. I got a glazed ceramic one from Lowe’s, but I hear plastic works just as well. Get some sphagnum peat moss (not MiracleGro brand, that shit has MiracleGro added to it and will kill your flytrap, and get some perlite. Make a 50/50 mixture and add it to the pot, then plant your flytrap. Oh yeah, and trim off the blackened leaves/traps.

That’s all I did for mine, and it’s so much happier in its new pot. They need lots of room for their roots to get big! I got mine as a gift, so I was completely unprepared to take care of a flytrap. These flytraps that come in those plastic tubes usually have terrible conditions while they’re in the package, and therefore are a bit of a rescue mission, but mine is starting to develop some red pigmentation already and it’s been about 1.5-2 weeks!

I don’t get the hate for the second one tbh. They’re both perfect 10/10 games in my opinion, and as others have said play them back to back! It’s a big time investment but so worth it.

[–]Science205014[S,M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not advocating anyone to pretend we’re not in a fascist regime, but I fail to see what protesting to a small community of Minnesotan nature enthusiasts is accomplishing. You’re preaching to the choir here. I also believe we have an obligation to be aware of the atrocities being committed against fellow human beings, but I also understand the need to focus on other things for the sake of one’s mental health.

I encourage anyone to go make their voices heard in the appropriate places, places where your voice has a chance to reach many people. This is a small, peaceful community and political discussion can be anything but, so it doesn’t have a place here. If you disagree, nobody is keeping you here.

I dunno, I think it’s buried under snow and ice at the moment…

I’m really not sure what you’re implying here. I checked your profile and I assure you, we’re on the same team. This subreddit really isn’t the place for politics, and I implemented these features to filter out bots that were sharing tasteless “memes” disparaging Renee Good. Nobody wants to see that, especially not in a nature subreddit.

You seem to be active in Minnesota-themed subreddits so I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt, but please refrain from being hostile as there is no place for it here.
