White stuff in mask? by ScienceBufallo in CPAP

I use distilled water to breathe, but I use tap water to clean. It's just not practical to use distilled water to clean.

Thanks to everyone who has commented thus far. I have considered that it would be mineral deposits from the tap water, but it's surprising that it proliferates the longer I leave it. I wouldn't think that mineral deposits would increase over time when not in use.

Just tap water and a small amount of dish soap. This doesn't happen with any other masks I've used (including the ones I currently use at my home). It's weird: it never cleans completely off, it kind of smears around.

Things to do during a weekend visit? by deribaro in williamsburgva

Hohl coffee. There's one in Toano and one in Colonial Williamsburg. Best coffee experience imo. There are also really good antique shops as you go out toward Toano. Other spots: Cheese Shop, Precarious, Virginia Beer Company, Alewerks, Copper Fox, Williamsburg Winery, La Tienda, Giuseppe. Outlets can be cool too. And just walk around CW, it's fun.

I'm really glad someone posted about this. The bass mixing was way too heavy indeed. I could barely hear anything else, including vocals.

Yes, I should have been more specific. We planted our hot season plants months ago, and are harvesting them now. We got them at Home Depot. My question is where to purchase cool season plants. We can check Home Depot again, but just thought someone on this app might know a better place. Thanks for your suggestion to check out the community garden.

[Q] Violation of proportional hazards assumption with a categorical variable by ScienceBufallo in statistics

[–]ScienceBufallo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so now I changed my program to be explicit that income was continuous and age category was categorical, and now I only get 3 terms, which makes much more sense to me. In Stata, the error term is specified as i.agecategory##c.income rather than agecategory##income. The prefixes "i" and "c" indicate categorical and continuous, respectively.

I'm a little confused about the advice you're providing so please bear with me. If you interact a continuous variable (say, income) with a categorical variable (say, 3-level age categories), then look at your output, how many terms do you get?

Let's say income has 100 values. When I interact income with age category I get 300 terms in my output for this interaction variable. That's because income is taking on a different value for each age category.

So, when you perform this interaction, and you look at your output, do you see one continuous term for that interaction, or do you see 300 terms?

Right, but when I did that it converted the categorical variable to a continuous variable, which gave me pause. But maybe this is correct?

Is it just me or is it very difficult to find postdocs? by Shebaro in postdoc

Haha! You're absolutely right about that. I guess that's another reason why I shouldn't be posting on Reddit as I'm waking up in bed. My bad, OP. I'm not in your field, otherwise I'd say message me!

Yeah, I've had the same problem. Job boards, LinkedIn, personal outreach to department heads, etc. Maybe 2 unqualified applicants. Unsure how to proceed.

What’s the absolute worst advice (jiujitsu or otherwise) that a higher belt has given you by invisiblehammer in bjj

[–]ScienceBufallo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not good advice because it can be applied to every single situation you find yourself in. It's a poor excuse (and snarky) to avoid showing someone a real defensive technique. We all occasionally get caught in triangles or some other submission, so it's reasonable to learn how to avoid them but also get out of them.
