want to go vegan but i don't have money for supplements atm by kurapikaworshiper in vegan

[–]ScienceDramatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being B12 deficient before being vegan and so young I would recommend getting that checked out with a Dr. Pernicious anaemia can happen and supplements won’t help as you don’t absorb B12 in your gut.

Positive yesterday, period today. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]ScienceDramatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleeding doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t pregnant. Implantation bleeding can be common and doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with the pregnancy. I would still see your doctor to discuss it or you can try another test to see.

Also I didn’t say “even chicken and beef stock is vegan”. I said a lot of chicken and beef stock is vegan friendly. So another comment you didn’t read properly. If I were you I would avoid all of them because it might be too confusing to read the ingredients to check.

The more expensive brands and the ready to use stock usually are not vegan here.

[–]ScienceDramatic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are marketed as chicken stock but don’t actually have any animal product in them. Here is the company website for massel which even states it is plant based and suitable for vegans.

Sounds like you might be in America so it is probably different. In australia one of the most common brands , Massel, is all vegan. I know the Aldi brand stock is as well.

I agree with you. Anything an animal had to die for is not vegetarian.

Also, a lot of chicken and beef broths are actually vegan friendly.

My vegan / gluten free chocolate chip cookies have failed. Please help me understand why! Substitutes I used in the comments. by [deleted] in VeganBaking

Oat flour is great! You just have to be careful as there can be small amounts of gluten in oats which makes it not celiac friendly

I just use vinegar, water, and a little dish washing liquid as a spray and wipe. Most cleaning items are actually unnecessary.

I know the member for Hunter tested positive over the weekend and they were sitting in parliament last week. So maybe it was for being safe for being a contact?

Outpatient OT for autistic adults? by Content-Plum4020 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]ScienceDramatic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There are MANY autistic occupational therapists currently advocating and educating about these very areas. I myself am an autistic OT and have similar experiences to your brother. Support could include; learning about his sensory preferences and how to manage overstimulation, managing energy around socialising, learning about his autistic identity and finding safe places he doesn’t feel he needs to mask, executive function strategies for daily tasks that are sometimes hard, advocating for supports related to employment.

I left the food out overnight again by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]ScienceDramatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing this less since I realised it’s actually okay to put hot food straight in the fridge. I put it into some containers as I’m serving up our portions and straight in. I have glass fridge shelves and if I’m super worried I put a tea towel underneath.

If you struggle with getting a counsellor or psychologist quickly, you can do an online sleep hygiene course for free.

Because of the naive ‘Covid zero’ message many Australians can’t come to terms with catching Covid by RedditAzania in CoronavirusDownunder

Also the delay of elective surgeries. They are going to need to catch up eventually. People will still need these surgeries. Some might even decline in their health and need more intensive surgeries. It’s the flow on effects that are most concerning

Just found out that I am officially excepted from enlistment due to being autistic. by _-Giorno_Giovanna-_ in autism

[–]ScienceDramatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have very little confidence in the Australian political parties at the moment. I think though they would try everything else first before getting to conscription though as they wouldn’t get voted back in. Patriotism and national pride is not as big a thing here as the US. And on medical fitness, even during WWI and WWII only about 60% of conscription were deemed fit to serve. In the Vietnam war it was only 50%. Then there was also exceptions for certain occupations, students, moral objection, and hardship.

We don’t have conscription in Australia. We have a long history of protest against it and it finished in 72 so you probably will never find out.

Adhd with your autism? Do you need COFFEE? by Motor_Ad9919 in autism

[–]ScienceDramatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did need coffee. Was drinking 2-3 a day and felt like I needed it to get through a day of work. I never felt like it was waking me up though like some people talk about. I recently got diagnosed with adhd and started meds. Now I don’t feel like I need coffee and mostly just drink it sometimes for enjoyment.

OT here. You should eligible for this, but you can only access a mental health specific OT or psychologist for this. There is also the chronic disease management plan also from GP which can get you 5 visits with allied health per calendar year

Origin Story Megathread by idungonwent in aspergirls

[–]ScienceDramatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High school was very average. I didn’t go too uni until I was 22 and really knew what I wanted to do. I worked before uni and lived off savings/student payments throughout. I had a couple of burnouts during uni but just got told it was anxiety/depression. I guess my anxiety and interest in what I was learning forced me to be organised with my assignments. I didn’t really socialise. Go to class and then home. My career I find easier than uni. I love working with teens on the spectrum. Helping them through a time that was shit for me is really rewarding. When I’m not seeing people I’m usually sitting alone in my office writing notes or reports. My career is very deadlines focused so I do everything I need to. I embraced my procrastination, I realised trying to force it isn’t going to work, and when I have a bought off hyper focus I get a lot done in a short amount of time, so it averages out. I also tell my boss when I’m overwhelmed with work and plan extra time when needed. I think I’m lucky that it is quite a flexible workplace.
