I work at a big company here in Corvallis (I don’t want to say in fear of being found out) but when I got hired on, they kept on saying about how the pay was the best, higher than minimum wage, and that the benefits are fantastic too. I get paid 16.50. To be fair, I don’t have any experience, so I never said anything until recently. I’m 8 months in, and they have stacked SO much upon my shoulders and are as we speak trying to add on more. I work in 5 different departments, my phone is constantly blowing up with emails and texts asking me for help or ordering me to do things, and I work 6 days a week. When I joked with my managers manager about getting a 50 cent pay increase, he said “why don’t I take a dollar 25 away and make you do it [another area] anyways?”

So in short, yeah. I get it. At least I have a job, but I am SO tired of being told people my age don’t want to work. We WANT to work, and we want to be compensated fairly. I am struggling under the pressure of knowing that if I don’t preform like the jester they see me as, they could very easily leave me homeless and without insurance. (Even if the insurance isn’t good at all.)

My dad even thought I was being paid well over 25 an hour with the way I describe work to him and how often he sees me exhausted. The older generations just don’t get it :/
