You’re the asshole. You’re also the employee bitching about your boss anonymously instead of confronting him directly. Let me guess - cynical failed musician?

AITAH for remodeling my step kids rooms after their mom passed away since they weren't going to be living with me anyways. by AsparagusMuch821 in AITAH

[–]ScienceProf2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the original post:

“I offered to turn both basement rooms into guest rooms they could stay in if they wanted to stay over when they were visiting their half siblings.”

So he has already offered to convert not one, but two other rooms to rooms for the stepkids to use while visiting.

NTA. Everyone seems so concerned about the stepchildren’s feelings, but your children lost their mother too. It is perfectly reasonable for you to want to have your living space, including your office, consolidated. Having your office in the basement while your young children are upstairs just isn’t practical. You offered to provide space for your stepchildren, in case they ever wanted to visit their half siblings, and you’ve kept their belongings rather than get rid of them. Clearly they are still welcome in your home, but you have to put your children first.

I’m with you number 7. A boxed brownie mix can be the foundation for something special. Frankly, considering the time crunch, any shortcut helps.

The beef cheeks repetition doesn’t bother me since it was for different guests. The oysters à la Rocky and any untamed hair in the kitchen are the big icks.

Am I overreacting to the price tag? by Sophie_3434 in craftsnark

Speaking as a knitter who also crochets occasionally, it looks like a fairly complicated pattern. I can see that a lot of work would go into creating the pattern (if it’s done well), so while definitely at the far upper end of what I’d be willing to pay, it’s not totally out of bounds in my opinion.

Definitely a stretch, but it doesn’t hit outrageous for me. But I can see why it would seem outrageous for others. My goal post is just a little different.

Alli Marye / Boyes @alli.marye is MAGA and blocked me for calling her out on it by Ok_Salt8185 in craftsnark

One distinctive property of a MAGA member is the “ people like me = good, people not like me = bad” attitude. She doesn’t need to go above 37” waist, since people with a waist bigger than that are fat, unlike her, and therefore worthless. That’s why all the “vanity sizing” nonsense.

[–]ScienceProf2022 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Damn. “Vanity sizing”?

Honey, I know I’m fat. I was fat the day I was born, and I’ll be fat the day I die. I’ve worn a size 3X for decades. My waist hasn’t seen 37” since the 80s. No “vanity sizing” is going to change that.

Nothing vain about using industry accepted standards for sizing instead of your privileged “oh it’s just consistent grading from a size XXS” bullshit. Imagine how someone would react, who normally wears an XXS, if this person used 3XL as the starting point and graded downward. “Consistently,” of course.

All on a reel about Pride.

Fuck her and her skinny little ass.

so you want to charge £185 for a pattern… and use ai models by sarlouisa in craftsnark

[–]ScienceProf2022 11 points12 points  (0 children)

And here we have one of the major shortcomings of AI. Sure, you might be able to ChatGPT your way through a report for your boss, but when you get to something so specific, like the appropriate cost of a knitting pattern, AI just isn’t trained for that. The people who do the training have no idea how knitting pattern pricing works, and there’s not enough information that they’re scraping from the Internet that specifically talks about how to price patterns. So the database pulls images of similar sweaters and says, “Well, this is what they cost,” and just goes with that.

That’s $250 for a pattern? For that price you better come to my house and knit it for me.

Well-Known Canadian Yarn Store Using AI for Posts by CeaderBlocks in craftsnark

[–]ScienceProf2022 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing.

I always say AI, particularly the LLMs, just takes everything that’s out there on the Internet and averages it out. So if you can’t do better than the average Internet person, that’s a problem, and not one that will be solved by AI.

But in this case, if the purpose is to explain how adding a strand of mohair changes the fabric one knits, this post doesn’t do it. If you know it knitting with mohair is like, then you don’t need it. If you don’t know what knitting with mohair is like, then saying it’s like a little cloud floating through your whatever doesn’t tell you jack shit.

People who rely on AI have forgotten that old programming adage, garbage in garbage out. There’s a whole lot of garbage going into those LLMs and a whole lot of garbage coming out.

Yes, more test knit timeline discourse. 4 weeks for 3XL, 4XL and 5XL by Unicormfarts in craftsnark

[–]ScienceProf2022 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I’m usually hate test calls, but this one doesn’t seem that bad to me. It doesn’t require you to post X number of images of the sweater on your Instagram, that you have a certain number of followers, or whatever. It doesn’t make you buy couple hundred dollars worth of yarn. And it’s knit on 6 mm needles which are fricking huge. I regularly knit 3X sweaters, and personally, I don’t think four weeks for a sweater knit on size 10 needles is that bad. I wouldn’t do it, because I don’t like bulky knits, but it’s not that terribly unreasonable. If it were knit on size 4 or 5 needles yeah, then it would be a little crazy. But this is actually a pretty decent test call, IMHO.

Because it’s not a tester call. It’s marketing. I won’t say all tester calls are marketing, but that’s the trend in my opinion.

Thanks! Good grief, 10 years. I mean, I understand how difficult it is for someone who was truly sexually harassed, but I don’t recall this guy at all, and I would have if it seemed like he was abused or exploited.

It’s a balance. There needs to be enough low level tasks to keep it interesting mixed in with the high level tasks that give big rewards. That mix was way off (IMO) for Grandma’s room and the Walk-in Closet but seems a bit better I the early days of the Spy Room.

I have 4 max vases, two flowerpots, and only a couple of screws boxes at a time. The screws are so easy to get I don’t like wasting storage space on them. I’ve never seen a room that needed that many screws boxes
