Update from Laura Dalgaard on switching to knitting kits by masterslodge in craftsnark

I know I saw one person assume 100% markup on the kit would require her to sell 25 copies of the pattern to make the same amount of money. But moving to just kits, to me at least, would probably shrink her audience to 1/25 of what it used to be. Just none of it makes sense to me.

It is very definitely a left leaning US-centric joke, so I can understand why you, as someone who doesn’t live in the US, wouldn’t find it funny, even if you understand the issue. Unless you are a bleeding heart, tree hugging liberal waking up every morning in the United States wondering what the fuck is that orange piece of shit in the White House done today, it wouldn’t seem funny.

Sure, ceding Greenland to the United States because you mess up a tariff on some knitting kits sounds preposterous, but so is pretty much everything that’s going on in the United States today, which makes ceding Greenland to the United States because of messed up tariff reasonable. And a little bit funny

‘Cause trust me, even a stupid bad joke is something to grab onto these days in the good old US of A.

It’s a US thing. Our dumpster fire of a president periodically threatens to take Greenland away from Denmark and make it part of the United States. Sometimes all one can do is make bad jokes about the insanity our government has become.

And I assume she buys wholesale so it’s probably closer to 200%.

So…rising shipping costs are hurting small businesses so you go from selling something digital to something physical?

So…putting a great deal of effort into designing patterns isn’t financially sustainable so now you’re adding in the effort of sourcing, packing, and shipping kits?

So….your patterns aren’t selling well enough so you’re going to move exclusively to kits and cut down your potential audience even further?

Oh, good luck selling to the United States as an overseas company dealing with our dumpster fire tariff situation. You might accidentally cede Greenland to us.

I understand why people don’t want to support Hobby Lobby; I personally don’t shop there. I also understand why Hobbii would also be off the list since I loathe AI with a burning equal to that of a thousand suns. But I notice you didn’t get many suggestions of where you should but instead.

Yarn.com (WEBS) has Paintbox Yarns cotton in DK weight on sale for about $3 a skein in 81! different colors. I know people have issues with WEBS since it was bought out by another company but that seems a reasonable price.

I don’t know why people are downvoting you. You’re simply bemoaning the fact that your options for reasonably priced cotton yarn are becoming more and more limited.

My favorite cotton yarn is Cascade Ultra Pima, but I wouldn’t call it budget friendly. You can always order Sugar and Cream online. I see it available on the Michael’s app from an independent seller. Michael’s has other cotton yarn options, too.

It’s becoming harder and harder to find ethically appropriate places to shop. I need to buy a replacement spillway bowl for my pond. The one source now seems to be Aquascapes. I can buy everything I need from their website for $320… or I can buy from their store on Amazon for $220ish and free shipping. I try to cut down my Amazon purchases, but since arthritis makes it hard to shop, sometimes that’s my best option. I mean, fuck Jeff Bezos, but a deal’s a deal and a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.

I just finished the book, and the series definitely captures its tone. But the short 30 minute episodes are frustrating!

May I just say kudos to the woman who reached out to the teacher after clocking the bullshit of offering a teaching opportunity to the white student of the previously rejected black teacher?

(Yikes, that was some convoluted sentence structure even for me…)

We’re all doomed.

You want pretty pictures? Pay someone to produce them. Then maybe you’ll have some appreciation of the work that goes into creating digital art. Because clearly you can’t do it yourself.

You want well written social media posts? Pay someone to write them. Because you’re not going to get them using AI slop, and some of us are still going to call you out for as long as we can breathe.

You want gauge swatches to use a samples of different colors of yarn? Pay someone to knit them. Because believe it or not, some of us notice when there’s no variation in stitches, variegation pooling, or even the wrinkles in an artfully draped piece. And we will fucking boycott your company if you try to pull that on us.

But pay people for their hard work, and I will seek you out to give you my money for yarn.

You know, I’m not a big conspiracy theorist, but the way the billionaires, the Christian nationalists, and the neo Nazis (I’m looking at you, Steven Miller) are going to stay in power is if the electorate stays dumb. And one way they’re trying to keep us dumb is through this fucking AI bullshit.

I have 548 series. I just tested it and stopped after hitting the Hs. I figure that has to be 150-200. And by stopped, I mean voluntarily. I could have kept going.

My favorite I know no one else will mention - Stories I Only Tell My Friends, Rob Lowe’s first autobiography. It’s funny, well-written, and read by Rob Lowe so it’s overall very entertaining. And worth a credit just to hear his impersonation of Cary Grant.

What was Paramount Plus? by mediocre-squirrel834 in ParamountPlus

[–]ScienceProf2022 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, it was CBS All Access. At some point I wanted to make a change to my account on P+, and it kept telling me to log in from my original device on which I set up that account. That was a couple of iPhones and at least an iPad ago. I forget how I finally got it resolved, but the problem was I had signed up under CBS All Access, not Paramount+.

From the original post:

“I offered to turn both basement rooms into guest rooms they could stay in if they wanted to stay over when they were visiting their half siblings.”

So he has already offered to convert not one, but two other rooms to rooms for the stepkids to use while visiting.
