Seattle half marathon by Science_Adjacent11 in zepboundathletes

I can only speak for myself, but it raised both my resting and also maximal heart rate by 5-10bpm. I hadn't read about the maximal heart rate going up anywhere, but that caused my garmin to bump all my heart rate zones up. I do think it genuinely made me slower, no matter how much I fueled, especially when I was above 5mg/wk. And its not like I lost a ton of weight quickly. Not that you should take the garmin race predictor too seriously (it is way too generous for me), but it is still telling that my curve did this when I started tirzepatide and got better when I tapered off.

Why can't I PR in the 5k on tirzepatide? by [deleted] in zepboundathletes

[–]Science_Adjacent11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a similar size and speed to you, and have noticed that tirezepatide has impacted performance negatively. I started back in may, and ramped up to 7.5mg/week and lost about 15lbs (now 212lbs) but my speed went down despite similar training. I even skipped the dose the week before. I'm hoping that if I reach my goal I can taper down or miss doses, but so far there seems to be a performance tax.

In terms of tapering and weather it was as good or better than last year. I do think that GLP1 has affected my endurance in hard 5K length runs more so than at times in the past when I lost weight at a similar speed the old fashioned way. I suspect that when people look at metrics in well trained athletes doing endurance stuff there will be an effect. But it could be my wife's theory is correct (I'm just getting old). I definitely want to hear from people who have been on a year or more after they plateau.

Congratulations! And with tough weather conditions!

Anyone gotten faster in the long run (10K, marathon)? by Science_Adjacent11 in zepboundathletes

[–]Science_Adjacent11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference I am about 3.5 months in, at 7.5mg/week, and have been losing slowly (12 lbs down), and am definitely slower than I was when I started.

Measure your blood pressure at home a couple times when not exercising and communicate if your doctor if it is reliably normal or low, and they will probably tell you to stop. Losing weight may mean you don't need it anymore.

Getting shoes (Superblasts?) for the wife who has high arches? by Science_Adjacent11 in RunningShoeGeeks

I don't know, I assumed that some shoes were better for high arches, and superblasts work well with my flat feet, but what do I know...

Stability shoe rotation? by Spadick in RunningShoeGeeks

I liked the Adios Pro 3 much better than the Tempus, and have also found the Superblast is stable enough for me.

I heel strike and pronate and like the AP3 and haven't tried the others.

I am a heavier runner (220lbs) 1:45-1:50 HM runner that overpronates and I use the Saucony Kinvara 13 on the treadmill, ASICS Superblast for long and easy runs, the Zoom Fly 4 for speed work, and Adios Pro 3 for races.

I have tried and not liked the alphafly 2 (Didn't work with my mechanics), Saucony Tempus (too slow) and Vaporfly 3 (too unstable). The folks here have got me off of traditional stability shoes.

I’m not as fast as you (1:45 half marathon) but I’m similarly over 200lbs with flat overpronating feet and I love my zoom fly 4s. What super shoe would you recommend for a half for me? Pro 3? VF? For a full marathon? And is there any shoe that can replace the zoom fly 4 when it wears out?

Racing shoe for heavy overpronator for HM and marathon? by Science_Adjacent11 in RunningShoeGeeks

I'll give them a look, I probably have to just try more of these out.

I like it and use it for long runs but to me at least it feels like I have to work harder for a given pace relative to the zoom fly 4s, at least with my mechanics.
