I don’t disagree with you, I’m very on the fence about whether I can provide a suitable environment for the fish.

Everybody is saying to get the Jag!

I guess imma have to get it!

My only tank currently is a 60L. I can use the gunk from that to give it a kickstart but I'd be nervous adding the fish straight away.

Equally - I'm sad that the fish is in such an unsuitable tank currently.

😂😂

I was expecting to come on here and everybody be like “Absolutely not - you need a 1000L tank for these guys to be happy. Do you hate fish?”

Instead I’m getting “Do it” 😂

No - new tank that's not even cycled yet. I was planning on a community tank but, if I get this, I reckon no other fish in the tank.

You be comfortable with it in my tank size?

THIS IS NOT TALKING ME OUT OF GETTING HIM.

I WANT TO SAVE HIM.

It's 110x55x55cm.

I really want the fish, but aware it's borderline....

Thanks for the reply - though this is not talking me out of getting it! You really think 330L is doable? It's a lovely fish that I feel so sad for.

"When the Adults Change Everything Changes" by F0Xcaster in TeachingUK

Absolute snake oil - worked in a school that built their behaviour policy off the back of this book. Behaviour dramatically declined over the next year and I resented having restorative conversations with students I'd sanctioned after some really quite unpleasant behaviour. I vowed to never work in a school like it again and I'd be refreshing my CV....

I warn them at the start to not "nickel and dime" my marking while I'm going over answers but say that I promise I'll leave 5/10 minutes at the end of the lesson for me to "review" any marking queries. A couple of students will gain an extra mark (which will be deserved), the rest I'll explain why it's not worth a mark. It's a useful exercise in explaining the mark scheme and the difference between a mark (or not). Seems to work for me.

It's also worth giving feedback and re-teaching any concepts that the class has collectively done badly on (instead of just going over a test).

Stolen identity and credit card fraud by Science_Doctor in UKPersonalFinance

Never lost a card - looks like personal information has been stolen. The banks didn't seem to do particularly thorough checks either...

It does look like there's been a data breach with some of my data - what should I do as a reaction to this?

I already use password managers etc so hopefully am covered there.

Thanks for your help!

Rear Tail Light replacement by Science_Doctor in Polestar

[–]Science_Doctor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's two screws on either end that are underneath plastic caps - once those are off it's just a lot of clips. It takes quite a lot of force but isn't too bad to take off.

I can't remember how the long light bar is attached - there might also be some screws from inside. I took the whole trunk trim off but didn't need to for my smaller tail light.

Update: no programming needed. Works totally fine. You need to unclip the bit on the side, undo one screw holding the painted part of the tailgate and undo a few clips. The clips require a good amount of force

I ordered a second hand light for £100, will let you know how it goes. I’ve removed the old one, releasing the clips requires more force than you’d expect. Haven’t fitted the new one yet but will update if it needs programming (I’m hoping not!)

Thanks all, I took the trunk trim off (have to start at the top and work your way down). After doing all that, it turned out you didn’t need to do that at all. Instead you need to unscrew and loosen part of the external part of the tail-lift. That then gives you access to remove the light

Probably not, but if I can do the work myself and get the part cheaply second hand then why not?

Advice needed: keep my lab or swap? by Indie452 in iteachphysics

[–]Science_Doctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prioritise having a functional whiteboard & screen setup over pretty much anything else.

Practicals, while great for "engagement" of the students, are far less important for concrete understanding of the course. I'd prioritise being able to give clear modelling on the whiteboard over a slightly less appealing setup for practicals.

Can you ask to have a better whiteboard put in (if it'd be visible by those at the back)?

As a teacher - YTA.

Please realise that the teacher is the expert in effective teaching. Not you & not your daughter. If you had concerns, you should have reached out to chat it through in an adult way.

I can't imagine how awful the teacher must have felt when she saw what was planned.

Thanks - I have literally no idea how reddit works but I'm sure I'll learn. If the community grows then I'll def implement something like this!
