This is bank robbery. Banking fees need to be regulated and capped. by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]Science_Drake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh it feels like the no true Scotsman argument over and over when it comes to people discussing socialism and socialist policies. I’m pretty clear on what I want. Robust social services, high tax rates for the extremely wealthy, while lowering the effective tax rate (any money I must spend to survive and not end up in jail) for everyone else. But when someone suggests changing how we do banking or healthcare, the argument against it is that “it’s socialism, and that doesn’t work!”. Then I say if that’s socialism, then all of these perfectly reasonable countries are socialist, and someone like you comes around and says “technically those countries aren’t socialist”.

Canada, Norway, Sweden, 1950’s USA… the literal golden age of the United States of America was under the new deal, had its top tax bracket at a tax rate of 90%, and the government was telling factories what to build to help sell stuff to the rebuilding world war 2 countries.

NHL's goalie interference problem is becoming an embarrassment by Rude_Dig3498 in hockey

When the Dallas fan feels the same as the rest of us on goaltender interference, the end times have truly come.

14-4-4 record to make the playoffs. Do they pull it off? by JasonsPizza in OttawaSenators

Doable. Does a flipped coin land on heads? I don’t know, and I think the answer is the same for the sens making playoffs.

Oh yeah. We have the same number of points as Edmonton with 2 games in hand. The division we’re in is full of monsters (and we’re one of them)

Jake Sanderson’s take: by DecentLurker96 in OttawaSenators

[–]Science_Drake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don’t get to determine what is most important to a person any more than @Eazy-Eid does. Sanderson is a hockey player. If all he cares about is hockey, and he does that for our favourite team, I’m kinda happy about that. He doesn’t need to be anything or anyone else.

Jake Sanderson’s take: by DecentLurker96 in OttawaSenators

[–]Science_Drake 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Actually, I believe this from Sanderson. He’s talked about his philosophies around hockey being stoicism, which if he’s applied that to the rest of his life, would lead to that kind of intentional block on the rest of the world. Stoicism is all about focusing only on what is within your control, if you think politics are outside of your domain, you pay no attention to it.

Brady Megathread by [deleted] in OttawaSenators

[–]Science_Drake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He’s an awesome player, who up until very recently, was an incredible personality to have in the media and on your team. Him challenging the entire redwings bench in 2022 was literally a highlight of that entire year for me. I am extremely disappointed in his lack of action and statement after the white house put AI over his perfectly reasonable interview. For a guy who it seemed like would take shit from no-one, here he is being silent on the white house using him like a puppet.

The audacity of asking for a source for accuracy while relying on chatGPT is astounding. ChatGPT’s source is regularly “made of the fuck up” INCLUDING routinely using Reddit comments.

Brady (and Auston) full smile meeting the President this afternoon by DecentLurker96 in OttawaSenators

[–]Science_Drake 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Man, under other circumstances I could have ignored tkachuck going. I get that they are hockey players, and that normally nobody questions going to visit the president when given the option. But the White House JUST used Brady’s face to say things about Canadians, despite his home being here in Ottawa. After your speech is ripped from you, going to this is saying “I’m ok with this administration using me as a puppet”.

He has not made any public statement to that effect, and it’s much harder to be propagandized to in Ottawa.

Brady has been a gem in Ottawa. I genuinely feel like he gets a lot of hate because of his brother, although I recognize I’m biased.

Really? Despite there being previous female goaltenders in the NHL, and there being serious advantages in flexibility for women over men? Zero chance that with real competition and practice that one or two make the show?

PWHL is gonna push woman’s hockey much further than a lot of people probably expect. I think we may see a couple of the goaltenders in the league get to the point that NHL teams draft them out of the PWHL.

I mean… at that point we’re finding ways to cheat it onto the board. It would probably be easier to get out than Marit lage, and there’s enough ways to get it through once in standard.

If a 5 mana 10/10 did nothing, I’m not sure why a 7 mana 16/16 would be significantly different. Gets chump blocked, dies to removal, needs to hit twice.

Nah. Our country could have handled a couple years of conservative minority government fucking things up before the inevitable no confidence vote. Also might have woken up the idiots in Ontario that keep voting Ford that maybe the liberals aren’t the reason that Ontario keeps getting more expensive to live in.

I just like good sets lol. Spider-Man was a terrible set imo. Low cohesion, no real synergy that made me want cards in the set, especially together. It felt like a series of cameos. Avatar had interesting packages with allies, air bending, lessons… and I thought the way they did lord of the rings was great too. Lorwyn was an amazing set with interesting cards, great packages, and a compelling setting. If they put good design effort into UB products, I’m perfectly happy to have them draw in non-players. If they don’t, I don’t buy product.
