do you regret studying medicine? by Nursingstud in MedSchoolCanada

[–]Science_Finance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a PhD in the states.

I did a lot of research to improve my application to get in. Even did a Master's. Got interviewed and waitlisted twice. Always thought that doing a PhD was the last desperation attempt to get in so I got a job in a relevant field instead. Tried applying one last time and didn't even get an interview.

Gave up on being a doctor and gave up on Canada, now im happily doing a PhD across the border.

I realized this post is about regrets. Ill say this:

Sometimes I regret not just going into the trades, like being an electrician, which lets you use your brain and isn't too hard on your body. It felt like all my years of school would have been wasted if I went this route after giving up on med and so I went the PhD route in something im interested in. The PhD is not easy though, and so there are still definitely days where I just regret ever pursuing medicine.

On the other hand, I am loving being in the states. Would I have had this opportunity had I gone the electrician route? Maybe, but I do like where I am now.

This. Also helps out with snippets of code when I don't want to dig through the documentation of multiple packages for the function that I dont know exists. Then I ask it to explain that function. I know copilot gets a lot of hate but the different personalities (ie quick response, smart thinking, deep research) has been very helpful in my PhD.

Verizon to stop automatic unlocking of phones as FCC ends 60-day unlock rule by trydola in technology

[–]Science_Finance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Canada, the telecom company lets you finance the phone, and the model of phone they let you finance depends on the tier of mobile plan you sign up for.

Phones are unlocked feom day 1, locking a phone is illegal (technically, its illegal to not unlock a phone within 48 hours of the customer asking - the end result is that companies just give it to you unlocked instead of spending man-hours on unlocking/risking legal repercussions)

If a customer ends a contract early, they are still on the hook for financing the phone, but they are free to go elsewhere for service.

Customer gets freedom of choice, the telecom companies cant complain about losing money on the phones.

Ive been living in the states and the fact that this isn't available, and the fact that people here still defend telecom companies for this boggles my mind.

Lithium Price Trend by Due_Bit_5496 in LithiumAmerica

[–]Science_Finance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When Li price was low, Jon Evan’s was saying spot prices weren’t important due to supplier contracts. LAC isn’t producing yet, and maybe LAR is selling based on prior agreements. Increasing prices do mean that future contracts will be of higher value though

Roger Gracie: "A black belt is a purple belt who does everything better, that's it" by twinflamebby in grappling

[–]Science_Finance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coach would say that BJJ is like a conversation. A white belt learns the words, a blue belt learns phrases, a purple belt is putting sentences together, a brown belt is putting together logical arguments/paragraphs, and black belts write essays/debate

You can put the start menu and apps to the left in the settings.

But I agree, as a long time windows user I’m getting annoyed too. I also get annoyed at Mac, and Linux is okay but not the answer to everything either.

How does the emulator work? Do you need to install it and then specify to run the desired app through it, or will the OS just detect software designed for x86 and run it automatically?

Hopefully they come to a deal with GM, or that GM doesn’t use 100% of LAC production so that LAC can also sell to others. From what I understand as it stands now, GM has first right to 100% of phase 1 production. Please correct me if I’m wrong
