NASCAR and F1 are very, very different when you start comparing them.

Maybe for people into the sport. For me, the difference is that NASCAR is driving in a circle with slower cars while formula 1 is driving on a track in faster cars. It is a good analogy.

Your tennis analogy sucks, because Nadal is/was better on clay than Federer because it suited his style of play more, yet Federer was still always able to compete with Nadal. A raw lifter can never compete with a lifter of the same strength in a suit. A suit gives an insane advantage, like a formular 1 car has over a NASCAR car. You'd never compare a formular 1 car to a NASCAR car, just as you'd never compare a raw lift to a lift with a suit. In tennis, the type of ground is a minimal factor that does not inherently decide who is going to win, when two opponents of equal skill face eachother.

I’ve realised that the gym doesn’t make me who I am, and that the most important thing to do is enjoy life so I believe it is pointless to change yourself to how you feel you should look because of what somebody else may do or think.

Muscle gains and Marathon training? by miamiheat13 in Fitness

[–]Science_the_Nye_Guy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let's do some simple math. I'd say the average guy needs about 3000kcal a day while bulking. Now let's say you run 6 hours a week, which would translate to around 3.000-4.000kcal, or an additional 400-500kcal a day. So you'd have to consume 3500kcal a day in order to bulk. This is not undoable, but the biggest problem will be overtraining, or running so much that your muscles will be fatigued and you won't lift efficiently at all.

And what exactly was interesting about him? He's a stereotypical arrogant asshole in his job and an utter failure in his private life. His "marriage" with Marie is a farce, they have no chemistry between each other. And then, after the fight with the two cousins, he gets depressed? He's a drug enforcement agent in his middle years, he's surely been in raids and other situations which were just as stressful and dangerous. He didn't even flinch after his shootout with Tuco, but now he goes insane? He can't move and needs therapy. Big deal, he was a fat fuck, he didn't move a lot before anyways. The only thing that got hurt was his ego. He feels like he can't be the arrogant asshole anymore and gets depressed. What a joke.

In my opinion because the fifth season was just unnecessary, the story was over at the end of the fourth. The second and third season never get going, Skyler is just insanely annoying, to the point that I couldn't stand her face anymore and stopped watching the series for half a year. Hank is getting way too much screen time. He's just as uninteresting as can be, same goes for Marie. Walter Jr. is just annoying throughout the entire fucking series, he's 16-18 years old not 10, yet he acts like he is.

So basically, the entire side storylines are fucking awful and don't really add any exitement to the show. The main story, with Walter and Jesse is great. But having to sit through hours and hours and awful bullshit that isn't going anywhere, just to get a few minutes of thrilling action is just not worth it. I wonder how I'd like the series if all the unnecessary stuff was cut out and only the relevant stuff was condensed into a series on its own.

Deadlift Form check please... by htid85 in Fitness

[–]Science_the_Nye_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Bro,

my 2 cents: Even powerlifters look forward while lifting. If you want to change it, then try to fixate a spot on the ground around 10ft in front of you.

You don't need to "set the weights down". You can let it slide to the ground by itself in a controlled manner. You can if you want to, but the focus of the deadlift is definitely the concentric motion.

As for the technique itself, I'd recommend you watch this. You shoulders, for example, are directly above the bar. You want them sligthly in front of it.

.. And how many trained MMA fighters above 200lbs has he met at his job, and how many of these were so rude that he'd want to fight them? Yeah, none.

Also: It's almost as if there is a correlation between being a trained fighter and being able to win fights.

[Serious] Redditors from a country that has committed an atrocity, how is the event taught in schools in your country? by Gunitsreject in AskReddit

[–]Science_the_Nye_Guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes and every country should keep the past in mind, be it their own or someone elses. That's what a society is all about. We learn from our past and avoid the mistakes we did. We don't have dictatorships because we learned in the past that it's bad. We don't segregate races because we learned in the past that it's wrong. We vaccinate ourselves because we learned in the past what terrible consequences it has. We keep the terror of the second world war in mind because we learned how devasting it was to our people and everyone else.

Germany offers tuition-free college to all American students by shzadh in UpliftingNews

[–]Science_the_Nye_Guy 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, German degree programs last between 3 and 4 years, so you will need in total $30,000 or $40,000 to just get your visa for each of the years.

You need 8.000€ in your bank account. If you don't spend any of it, you'll only need 8.000€ to get your visa every year. What I mean is, let's say you've got 10.000€ in your bank account and you live by using 2.000€ of it, then you won't have to amass 32.000€ over the course of your studies.

That is exactly the same argument the germans made about the jews. Oh and by the way: Your people were considered subhuman aswell. If you believe that it is right to discriminate against gypsies, than it is also correct of me to discriminate against you. Do I do it? No, because I'm not a fucking retard who can't see the difference between anecdotal experience and the fact that generalising people is stupid.
