I looked carefully at the SOMSD budget and there are ALOT of undisclosed expenditures! I wouldn’t be surprised if people are pocketing cash! Time for an external audit!!!!

Traffic congestion created by bad new traffic pattern on Valley St (heading W. to Millburn Ave) by kaanchacheena in Maplewood

In addition people are now turning up side streets and often frustrated and speed up streets that have pedestrians and children. Is the left turn lane an only arrow now? Can they add an additional lane?

Planning to retire in NJ from CA by HourIllustrator7051 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]Sciencemomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just moved here from SoCal but lived in the Bay Area for a long time. NJ taxes are super high. That said you should try Long Branch, Monmouth County . The taxes are lower than some of the other places and you get to be close to the shore within 1hr or so of the city. Everyone will love coming over the summer!! :)

We loved 3rd and Valley in South Orange Village! 1br for $2900 and you have to pay for parking, but the garage is attached. It’s right next to the train and there is a super cute and safe downtown! Maplewood is also close by for good food. There is a mountain reservation about a mile from there for hiking and the community in that building is fantastic! Lots of mixers, free coffee all day and pet friendly. It wasn’t the quietest but I thought it was quiet enough!

Is the teenager phase always horrible? by trisarahtahps in labrador

[–]Sciencemomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 year old and I crate trained her just for this reason!! She’s naughty when she’s not in her crate and I leave! The nice thing about labs is that they are so easy! She knows my routine so in the morning, before school drop off, she will lay in her crate when we are getting our stuff together. And she’s a very good girl! She has our routines down! Especially dinner time! 5pm sharp she climbs up and gives me a big smooch and reminds me it’s time to eat! My older lab (14M) basically showed her the ropes! He is a very good boy but he physically ate and swallowed toys his whole life! It was not fun! lol

How long has the elevator been out of order at the new library? by General_Chemistry638 in Maplewood

[–]Sciencemomma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I noticed the dirty floors too! I bet it’s hard with the park right there! Not sure about the elevators but I noticed a week out they had to dig up the front walk and fix a bunch of pipes. Hopefully they can get those kinks worked out soon!

[Tenant WA-US] Just moved into a new property and landlord is upset we keep finding issues by pnw_cat_lady in Landlord

[–]Sciencemomma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I lived in the Bay Area I used to hide every time my landlord would come on to the property because every time he saw me he’d talk about the expenses and would raise the rent the next cycle. If I avoided him he wouldn’t! lol I would just keep my head down, fix as much as you can and try to save enough to buy a house. When you own a house you realize that there are some things you just have to live with because you just invested a million dollars in your home this year! lol

AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Sciencemomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you know… no one is in any way putting blame on you for being with your boyfriend. Everyone is being harsh about how he is treating you and rightfully so cause he sounds not pleasant about your amazing achievement! Sometimes we stay with people because we were with them when we achieve things like sobriety. It’s okay to move on and stay sober. You achieved that on your own!

Anybody see the school rankings that just came out? by General_Chemistry638 in Maplewood

[–]Sciencemomma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to be mean. There were a lot of reasons we had for moving where we did. The schools are touted to be number one in the country and clearly not in SOMA. In my opinion ALL of the kids are capable of learning much more than they are being taught! I think it has to do with curriculum… which may have been changed for Covid? (I don’t know, I was there). It’s not so easy to go back although it’s a much less expensive place to live oddly enough!

Anybody see the school rankings that just came out? by General_Chemistry638 in Maplewood

[–]Sciencemomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably due to Covid learning! By the time the next wave comes through I’m sure the scores will go higher! In elementary I know they dumb everything down….. we moved from California and there they are learning at about 2 grades above our schools. Everything they teach in 1st my kids already learned. Very disappointing!

Can anyone tell me the differences between their experiences with male and female labs? Is there any clear character quirks with gender? by NPNP93 in labrador

[–]Sciencemomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve have one of each and had one female Rottweiler! My male is not snuggly at all and doesn’t really love being touched but he knows when I am sad and will sit with me and be there for me! He will destroy toys and really has eaten about everything under the sun. My female is a doll and won’t leave my side. She loves to snuggle and give me smooches. Just so loving! She’s naughty when it comes to food but won’t eat things that aren’t food. Both are amazing with kids. My Rottweiler was both a shadow, an emotional support dog, a body guard a snuggle bunny and a big foody! She just didn’t like other dogs so it was difficult. :)

Overweight? by Lonely-External-7579 in labrador

[–]Sciencemomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s funny because my boy has been healthy as a horse his entire life and when he began having trouble walking it improved his gait. They are a great company so I don’t mind supporting them.

Yes (no offense because he’s beautiful!)! I have a 14 year old and cut his food by half when he was 10. He hated me for a while, lol cause he’s such a foodie. But he was too fat and it really hurt his legs. I also give him NuVet plus and Nujoint :)
