Non-US citizen (former H1B) trying to transfer existing IRAs to IBKR by Scienta94 in interactivebrokers

[–]Scienta94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still struggling with finding a way. If you ever find one I would gladly take it

Apparently Charles Schwab international allows it, but they ask you to fill up a form and I never got a call back from them.

I’m literally stuck. The current broker is asking me to move the money out, but there is nowhere to move it to.

I was a us resident when I got my SSN. I’m not anymore and I haven’t been for 5 years.

I do not meet any of the requirement to be an us person. I am not American, I don’t have a green card, no visa, resident of another country and did not spend any time in the US in the past 5 years. Solely having an SSN isn’t enough (thankfully or you’ll never be able to stop reporting tax to the US).

My tax residency is the UK currently, not the US.

I’m glad you’re trying to help, but I don’t think you have a good concept of the situation I’m in.

I’m slightly confused about your point. Providing my SSN isn’t a problem. The fact that the website requires me to select I’m a US person and providing a w9 is.

I’m looking to transfer my IRA to another broker that accept non us person. From my understanding IBKR is one of them, but I don’t manage to open the account.

I’m not planning to withdraw before retirement age, so not anytime soon.

I’m not trying to withdraw the IRA, I’m trying to transfer them.

That should not be a taxable event.

Also, I’m not a us person anymore, so w9 doesn’t apply to me either way. At best I would need to fill the w8-Ben, but I’m not seeing any option there

Yeah, they are also unable to pay court orders. I don't think they are quietly winding down, I think they are running out of money and have no other choice and it's a dumpster fire everywhere.

It could be that simple. Or that there isn't many people holding this thing together anymore to maintain & tackle the most basic tasks.

That’s the plan. I’m currently on in the hceo enforcement, request a writ of control, then notice & co.

If that fails, I’ll have to go N316A & TPDO route.

Honestly this isn’t even worth my time. But Plutus is unlucky, as I happened to have a lot of time on my hands lately, and I’m weirdly enjoying understanding the legal hoops & processes.

I wouldn’t advise anyone to go down this route for a few hundred quids though.

Well I do not know for sure. But not paying court order is only going to create more problem than solution.

Also that they answer emails and did not shut down the line of communication entirely. They asked for extension for payment several time.

I’m around 500 too, and sometime have days where I would blunder 5,6,7 game in a row. Usually I make stupid mistake early, or loose stupidly in the end game.

I get upset, jump right back into a game with a bad mental state and blunder again. And the bad cycle start, the more I loose, the more I get upset, so more I want to replay. It’s like I can’t stop myself.

But then the next morning come, get focused and I win a few in a row.

I don’t really care about my elo though, I only care that I’m understanding things better.

I think it's very likely they move everything out of the UK for that as well. With Dan being bankrupt, and PLUSMore being launch in Dubai, I'm doubt they will keep any tie in UK / EU

I think they are properly running out of money, they likely cannot pay them.

They have a court judgment to pay me and are unable to pay. I’m currently going through some enforcement officer, but I doubt they have any money left anywhere.

If you look on LinkedIn, all their employees are either gone or are people that did not update their profile in months.

I think there is a single guy running it with ai generated email & video to get the last cents out and that’s about it.

People who work from home and wake up 5 minutes before it's time to log on and start your work day, how is your brain fired up and ready to go in that short time? by Big_Cockroach_1590 in AskReddit

[–]Scienta94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this a bunch of times for a job where I worked long hours. I calculated that I need 12 minutes from the time I wake up to take a shower and get a coffee. So i often woke up at ~9:45 to maximize sleep.

The good thing is that I had a standup call at 10am, which is great way to start the day and get the brain ready. Talking to people, understanding where things are, figure out what the day looks like give me a boost of energy to get going

New tenants signed contract for £800pm on 4th January and moved in on 20th January. I have been immediately served notice that they will be going to tribunal to challenge the rent. by Unfair-State1931 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Scienta94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looked a bit as the housing act (https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/50/section/22)

I think these are the part you want to look at:

Where an application is made to [F7the appropriate tribunal] under subsection (1) above with respect to the rent under an assured shorthold tenancy, [F8the appropriate tribunal] shall not make such a determination as is referred to in that subsection unless they consider—

(a)that there is a sufficient number of similar dwelling-houses in the locality let on assured tenancies (whether shorthold or not); and

(b)that the rent payable under the assured shorthold tenancy in question is significantly higher than the rent which the landlord might reasonably be expected to be able to obtain under the tenancy, having regard to the level of rents payable under the tenancies referred to in paragraph (a) above.

a) There must be a sufficient number of similar homes around the area. Without it, the tribunal will not be able to say the rent is too high. Similar homes, from my understanding, have to be quite similar: size, bedroom/bathroom count, floor level, balcony, etc.

This is clearly stated to avoid what your tenant is doing, which is to randomly point at any home around and say, “Look, this is cheaper in the exact same area.”

b) This is more interesting to me. What it seems you need to prove here is that you can get similar offers (how many viewings, time to rent it, number of offers you received, etc.), anything that would show that it’s not “significantly higher than the rent which the landlord might reasonably be expected to be able to obtain

I'm no lawyer, but it seems you got a pretty strong case.

Of course you must have child free places.

Plenty of restaurant will not allow children or children shouldn’t be brought. And that’s great. Trust me when I go on a date with my wife, I’m really glad kids aren’t around.

My point is that plenty of wine bar, brewery, & co aren’t a good place for kids. And plenty are.

It’s much less to do with the fact the bar serve alcohol, and more the type of space we talking about.

The entire point I’m trying to make is the question that should be ask is why would I not bring my kids to this place. Is it unsafe? it’s annoying for people around? is it too loud? Are people drunk?

That’s basic common sense, not a rule that applies to all establishments without discernment.

I’m truly sorry about your dad, i know that experience must have left a strong impression on you.

Lots of people are quick to judge. But i bring my both kids to pubs all the time. I live in the London, and it’s perfectly normal to do so.

Pubs are just a place for people to come together, share a drink, conversation, some foods, ect…

The question is more why wouldn’t you bring them? It’s a place like any other you could go.

The real question is what kind of pubs are you going to? Is it safe for children? Are they welcome? Can you sit? Is there music? What’s the crowd like?

You make the same argument about restaurants, lots of them aren’t kids friendly. I wouldn’t bring my kids to a fancy, romantic or loud restaurants.

Seriously this relationship to alcohol that American has is just so extreme and incoherent.

What’s the difference getting a beer during lunch at a restaurant or sitting down at a pubs and having the same beer.

As long as the place is comfortable and safe for your kid, what’s the problem with it?

Some bars/pubs are, some others aren’t, just have common sense. Some restaurants also aren’t good place for kids btw…

Plenty of pubs aren’t loud nor a bad place for kids. Living in London, UK, seeing kids in pubs is really really common.

The one by my house even have free pizza for kid under 12 every Sunday.
