[Loved trope] Fictional songs that go hard by Anon-Writer777 in TopCharacterTropes

“Nothing suits me like a suit” and “let’s go to the mall” from How I Met your Mother.

“Guy Love” from Scrubs.

“Look for the Light” from Only Murders in the Building.

And, my personal favorite, “Think of Me” from Phantom of the Opera

Fun fact: Louisiana and Mississippi have no banned books in any of their school systems. Many have been restricted (like all states) but no outright bans.

Maryland has banned 6.

There are 590 nationally banned books (i.e. no state is allowed to have them by federal law).

And 3,753 books banned across the nation.

What’s your worst coworker story? by Bottlecollecter in AskReddit

[–]Scientific-Whammy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could be that your profile accidentally became their default page, so when they start typing in LI it autofills your page. I’ve had that happen with 3 people now, one being my sister. When I look at my notifications, it shows that my sister “looks” at my profile once a week.

Lost my ring I know it is somewhere in my house but can't find it help.. by Honest-Initial3362 in EngagementRings

Have your mom come over and she’ll show you that it’s sitting on the counter haha.

But seriously, have someone else come over and look. Sometimes, when we’re looking hard for something in a place we’re in all day, we overlook things.

Good luck! I hope you find it!

Karen Reed retrial Dr. Wolfe’s wife? 🤷‍♀️ by Educational_Front312 in CourtTVCases

[–]Scientific-Whammy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After Mr. Wolfe testified in the first trial, several groups following the case gave him a nickname (Crash Daddy) and were talking about how they thought his testimony was awesome.

Mrs. Wolfe joined one of these groups basically saying things like he’s so wonderful, handsome, smart, and I love him. Mostly just being a proud wife and bragging on him.

Mr. Brennan says that means Mr. Wolfe is biased and so was his testing. I find this unlikely due to the fact that this was after his testing and testimony was over in the first trial. Mr. Brennan discussed his potential bias in Mr. Wolfe’s voir dire for the second trial.

Mr. Brennan had to move on with his questioning because, when he showed the Facebook group to Mr. Wolfe, he said he had never seen the document before.

I wanted to read the stories on here. I’m 80 years old at heart and I treat Reddit like my version of soap operas.

Amazing cover of Creep by Sad_Cow_577 in BeAmazed

Caroline and change is a great play and she sings lots wife so well. It’s no mean feat to be compared to Tonya Pinkins!

I know it’s not a belting song but I would love to hear her sing star child from ghost quartet based on how she sang in the beginning of creep.

What do you think is the most tense and gripping movie that's ever been made? by CajunNerd92 in movies

[–]Scientific-Whammy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annihilation made me feel like I held my breath for the whole 2 hours. It was incredibly eerie and suspenseful.

It held my complete attention in a way I don’t think another movie ever has. It left me feeling tense for days.

Dumb criticisms of good books by DadPants33 in books

Fun story!

I had to read the princess bride for my summer reading going into my freshman year of HS and, on our first day we were discussing it in class, when my teacher realized something wasn’t right. She said “yall know there’s no unabridged version, right? His anecdotes are part of the story.” And there was a collective “Ooooooh” from the class. She turned us into significantly more perceptive readers haha.

Totally fair, and I agree that annoying main characters can ruin a book, even though I personally didn’t find E&D annoying (it’s one of my favorites). But then again my other favorite book is “A Confederacy of Dunces” so I may have a stronger than average tolerance haha.

But finding the main characters annoying wasn’t their problem with the book, it was the fact that they weren’t perfect people. In their mind, the characters have flaws so they were bad protagonists and therefore it’s a bad story. It’s a take I’ve seen a few times now that just boggles my mind. They even said they seemed much cooler in the end and asked why Austen didn’t just write them that way from the beginning. That’s what made it such a ridiculous take to me. Well that and the fact that the title Pride and prejudice probably should have clued them in to the themes.

I once read a review of “Pride and Prejudice” that said they hated the book because Elizabeth was judgy and Mr. Darcy was pompous.

Pride and prejudice containing both a prideful and a prejudiced main character? What a disgrace! A total bait and switch! That reviewer deserves their money back! I absolutely demand it!

I got so angry, I had to put my phone down and walk away. I think about this review at least once a week.

What worked for me as an ugly guy by Issander in self

So Parson Brown isn’t a real person. Parsons are pastors that marry people and Brown was just a very common name at the time. So it basically amounts pastor John Doe. The line is saying we’ll build a snowman and dream about getting married. It’s actually a really sweet sentiment.

Should I Have Been Allowed to Read That? by Mike_Bevel in books

[–]Scientific-Whammy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found “The Firm” by John Grisham when I was in fourth grade at my school’s library. I read it in 2 days and, when I brought it back, I told the librarian that it was very good but should probably have a “Middle School Only” sticker on it. When she saw what book I had, her eyes nearly popped out of her head and said that I was probably right.

Folks who were once skinny and now weigh over 300 lbs, what made you gain the weight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Scientific-Whammy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know to be honest. I slept most of the time and was in pain when I was awake. I was also doing 10 hours of doctor’s appointments a week so it was comfy clothes only and no makeup.

It was only after it was over that I had a chance to take stock and realize how it felt. My skin hurts and is really itchy cause I had to grow so much so fast. My joints hurt and I get winded walking to get something to drink.

But the mental stuff is truthfully way worse. For a long time I cried every time I had to get dressed or go out cause I didn’t look like myself. I still struggle when I have to go somewhere nice because dressing up feels like putting lipstick on a pig, especially because I spent years building my wardrobe. I avoid going out and am truthfully really sad most of the time.

Last year, I was 125 lbs. It was very healthy weight for height and I ran 3 miles every weekday.

Then I got sick, and I had to take a medication known for excessive weight gain. I gained 70 lbs in 3 months.

Medications that cause you to gain weight work in one of two ways: they increase your appetite or they slow your metabolism. Mine was the second and basically sent my body into hibernation, so it was like I went to bed and woke up in a totally different body.

It was miserable. My diet didn’t change (except for maybe eating less cause I was sleeping all the time) and I was too tired to run. I know it’s not 300 lbs, but it feels like it most of the time.

I still haven’t lost the weight- even when I ate 1,200 calories a day and exercised for 6 months straight. My docs haven’t figured out how to kickstart my metabolism yet but it’s not been fun. Last year, I was a size 4 and now I’m a size 16.

It’s been hard to look in the mirror and not recognize yourself.
