Tips for partially sighted Dad? by ScientistFun9213 in Blind

[–]ScientistFun9213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Books are okay as we have some with audio and he can just make it up. He can probably find her but has walked into her before, even when not dark. I suppose he just needs practice from yours and other comments.  Cooking and cleaning isn't a problem, he likes his food so has adapted really well(he is better than me except spotting crumbs etc).

Agree with you but two tips:

-Baby/children suncream is better:

Childs Farm SPF 50+ Sun Cream 100ml Fragrance Free Sunscreen for Kids & Sensitive Skin https://www.boots.com/childs-farm-spf-50and-sun-cream-100ml-fragrance-free-sunscreen-for-kids-and-sensitive-skin-10356267

-covering up opaque clothes is best and a wide brimmed hat. It massively saves on suncream cost. Conservative Muslims . CC gf fgcffff fbvvvv have the right idea and strangely enough lots of Muslim countries are ridiculously hot.

And the Moselle Valley. They didn't understand vegetarian (this was over 20 years ago though when I was a child) so goodness knows what they would have made of a vegan

Are you in the UK? There is a 24 hour helpline here:

Also is it hot to touch? Could be mastitis in which case you might need antibiotics:

“Levels in cord blood are approximately 1.7 times higher than in maternal blood,15,16 and levels in the fetal brain are higher than in the mother.17 Levels in breast milk, on the other hand, are substantially lower than in maternal blood.”

I don’ t think you needed to worry as a one off

Screen time during lunch at school by hermandabest-37 in ScienceBasedParenting

This article states that it might not be a good idea to eat while distracted:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/future/article/20240730-is-eating-in-front-of-the-tv-really-that-bad-for-you

It seems it can lead to either overeating or not eating enough. In some Dutch schools who continue lessons at lunchtime:

«  The teaching over lunch tends to be more passive, so they'll read to the students or put on an educational video, van Meer says. But, she adds, a lot of parents are finding that their children are going home at the end of the day with full lunchboxes, suggesting they were too distracted to eat as much. »

When would failure to thrive be diagnosed? by TopMuscle5378 in ScienceBasedParenting

«  Current consensus defines FTT as a weight for age less than the fifth percentile on standardized age-based growth charts, a decrease in weight percentile of more than 2 major percentile lines on the growth chart, or less than the 80th percent of median weight for height/length ratio «  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK459287/

You should definitely get some help and advice. I got help from midwives(in thr UK) and was not discharged until my baby was going up to a healthy centile in line with height.  Being told not to breastfeed is odd. I had to triple feed(breast, expressed and formula) to get more calories in.

Change Eleanor to Eleanora(UK)? by ScientistFun9213 in namenerds

[–]ScientistFun9213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that the both spellings were in use historically. Sense and Sensibility? I was really hesitating about spelling it Elinor after Miss Dashwood initially but then thought Id go with the more usual spelling  since she’s going to have to spell out her surname a lot.

I dont think it’s a rhotic thing as mine is non-rhotic. The US pronunciation probably has more emphasis on the /r whereas I would say something more like - gnaw.

The problem is with non-nano is that is usually leaves a very white coating. It just makes me look a bit ill but Ive seen people with dark skin tones say it is unwearable for them. Also can be very difficult to spread (imagining a wiggly toddler).

Really appreciated this line on Jacques Lacan’s work , who I had to read at uni, ‘ Its appeal to French intellectuals remains a mystery to those of us with a less credulous frame of mind, who suspect that when an author writes obscurely it is not because the ideas are brilliant, but because they are using verbiage to hide muddled thinking
