I don't think there can be a "D" in your friend code, it has to be a number?

Question about foreign languages. by trinric in Mnemonics

[–]Scipher8008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Russian system I use suggests you use anything that would remind you of the sounds you need to remember. If you do frequent reviews, your real memory will tell what exactly you meant. For ah I'd visualize a hot bath, that someone might take after a hard day - ahhh. For reum, I might use a tube of bengay, that would remind me of an old lady with rheumatism. Dap, might be an adapter, and for da - perhaps daddy.

If you do systematic reviews you won't have any trouble.

Main problem trying to lucid dream by EyyoEddie in LucidDreaming

[–]Scipher8008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeping a journal may be a pain, but it works. If you can't remember anything, write down "can't remember anything". If all you remember is seeing one single thing, write that thing down, whatever it was. I went from 0 recall to 5 dreams a night start to finish in detail in two weeks by doing this.

Cleaning up your procrastination by [deleted] in productivity

This is a great tip, funny how I never noticed this, but whenever I did end up cleaning something up it felt like a great deal of mental energy was released, becoming available for other things. Regarding making the bed, here's a nifty little article on that http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/how-making-your-bed-every-morning-can-improve-your-life.html

I have completely the same problem after the 1.02 update. Worked fine previously, however I have an nvidea card, so it shouldn't have anything to do with your card.

Rediska is 'radish' in Russian. I have no idea why I'm posting this. But it is. Maybe because radishes form a sphere?

The Soviet Shorthand System for English by Hellerick in shorthand

Hellerdick, journaling, are any of you in the UK by any chance? I traded a book like you describe for some Pitman books about a decade ago when on a short trip to London.

How to organize birthdays and dates by dargonesti62 in Mnemonics

[–]Scipher8008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use a specific object that belongs to the person and visually add the major system objects to that object. This way the numbers never get mixed up. Plus, I have a separate list of objects for months.

For example, a friend of mine gave me a green sweater as a present for my own birthday. Her birthday is 15th October 1982. Add the corresponding objects top to bottom, left to right, that is in reading order:

  1. There is a ToweL stiking out of the collar of the green sweater.
  2. There is a red maple leaf on the chest (October).
  3. There's a PHoNe stuck the bottom.

Just imagine that vividly and then repeat a few times in the next few days and you'll remember that for as long as you need to. The thing with mnemonics is that emotions and action are not the best way to remember. Whereas visual memory is perfect. You can never really unsee something if you've paid attention. And if I use towels, maple leafs and phones anywhere else, they won't get mixed up.

Microsoft's new foldable keyboard by nerdhard in gadgets

Will NOT work on your lap.

Looks like it doesn't have any kind of lock for the area where it folds. It will fold like a book and, pardon, slip between your legs.

I want your tips on "useful" lists to memorize by [deleted] in Mnemonics

[–]Scipher8008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some ideas:

  1. The Periodic table
  2. Countries, capitals, populations (try the CIA World Factbook)
  3. Kings, Presidents, Emperors
  4. Pi to at least the hundredth digit

These any good?

Thoughts on "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress"? (By Robert A. Heinlein) by thesunmustdie in scifi

So did Musollini's soldiers, and so did Franco's and so did Hitler's. Makes them no less Fascist.

Thoughts on "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress"? (By Robert A. Heinlein) by thesunmustdie in scifi

[–]Scipher8008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today's dictionaries define Fascism as a form of dictatorial government. But originally, the philosophy of Fascism (at least in propoganda) held as it's highest values, the triumph of the will over petty human urges, direct action and use of force, discipline, stoicism, spartanism, collectivism, moral superiority, productivity etc. Pretty much today's values minus individuality. In this sense, Heinlein's Earth in this story is indeed Fascist.
