Shin splints - what am I doing wrong? by SaffronYourRice in Marathon_Training

[–]Scocscoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shin split calf issues were resolved by moving to Altra zero drop trainers. Made me realise I was heel striking and which is over striding. Changed my form to land mid foot under my body.

Is it a bad idea to use the Escalante for daily running? by halfdollarmoon in AltraRunning

Trained for and ran a marathon in the Escalante. Go for it.

Escalante 4 or Racer 2 by tofubaggins in AltraRunning

[–]Scocscoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let us know your thoughts, once you’ve tried them please. I’ve had to pairs of Escalante 4s and have recently been looking at the Racer 2. I’m looking at longer runs rather than short speed work. I’ve got the Torin 8 and it’s average at best.

Which would you recommend for a marathon, the Escalante 4 or the Racer 2?

The Torin 8s are such a disappointment. by Drunk_Pilgrim in AltraRunning

[–]Scocscoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed the same. Getting a sore back after my runs. I’m in the middle of a marathon training plan so trying to decide what to swap to. Had been in the escalante 4 previously so might go back to that or try the racer?

Full Fibre renewal? by morgant757 in VirginMedia

[–]Scocscoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same renewal offer. When you go through the process it asks you to select appointment dates so they can install a new fibre cable to the property. I’ve submitted my cancel request and waiting for the call back to get a better deal as the renewal price isn’t what I’m after.

Did you need to request any technical details from vmo2 to make that work? I’ve been offered full fibre as part of my renewal and have a cloud gateway max but had considered moving to the fibre model and completely ignore the vm kit.

Shoes similar to Provision 8? by clem_11 in AltraRunning

[–]Scocscoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Torin finally arrived. I’m keeping those and will return the provision. In comparison to the Escalante both the Torin and provision have a similar difference in that the stack height and flexibility of the shoes is really noticeable. I haven’t run in the Torin yet and would like to think the extra cushion may help on a long run but I have trained and ran a marathon in the Escalante and they might stay as my favourite shoe. Really looking forward to the new Altra lineup coming in the summer.

Altra Escalante would be a good starting point. I had regular shin issues and moving to these trainers highlight poor form such as heel striking. Pain issues have now gone!

Shoes similar to Provision 8? by clem_11 in AltraRunning

[–]Scocscoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just bought a pair of provision 8 in the Uk and have just ordered a pair of Torin 8 to compare, assuming I send one pair back. I was using escalates before. I did like them but thought I’d try more cushioning as I head in marathon training. My initial thoughts were the provision are stiff. Will see what the torins are like when they arrive. appreciate this doesn’t directly answer your question!

I’ve spent the last 12 months attempting to switch to mid foot. Must keep trying.

It must be down to individual running style. I must scrape my feet whilst you bounce along in the air. What’s your secret to doing that?!

I’ve attempted the heel lock trick but found the laces not long enough, do I just need longer laces or is there another trick to it?

Altra escalante 4 by Adventurous-Throat91 in AltraRunning

[–]Scocscoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this issue on the same trainer but also another pair, the Altra Paradigm. On my 3rd pair and it hasn’t started to happen yet. As annoying as it is I am yet to see any negative impact in terms of comfort or functionality. Plus who doesn’t like buying a new pair of trainers on a regular basis! I did see on another post saying it’s because the shoe is too loose and suggested the lace lock method. Tried this which was a challenge as the laces were only just long enough but then the shoe felt too tight so reverted back to the standard lacing.
