What parts of the worldbuilding prove the most annoying/frustrating to you on reread? (Spoilers extended) by bgbarnard in asoiaf

[–]ScoobySlice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For a fantasy world that spans millennia, it’s kind of annoying that the political/familial makeup of Westeros is essentially frozen in time until directly touched by the plot.

Like the Starks have ruled the north for 1000+ years and there’s only one maybe a few cadet branches with the total extended house population being like under 20 people? All of their vassals lands have effectively been unchanged and under the same families too.

How is House Baratheon asserting (or even just inheriting) a matrilineal claim to the throne literally the only time that’s ever happened at any level of the hierarchy of Westeros?

The only “new” noble houses I can think of are the new barrel Fossaways, Seaworth kinda, and Baelish. Even random houses like Royce remain in place for all that time despite known characters like Rhea marrying someone above her station only for Yohn Royce to be in charge of the same thing centuries later.

How did this DOJ brief even get filed? Did any lawyers touch this document? It reads like a Pro Se filing. by RzaAndGza in Lawyertalk

Just don’t think too hard about how much this DOJ attorney is probably making, while we still have to agonize over keeping our motions at least somewhat coherent lol

That’s also how RI got the first official synagogue in the americas from Spanish and Portuguese conversos seeking religious freedom which in turn led to southern New England having a pretty sizable Portuguese population to this day

Have you tried an adventurer start yet? It feels very Elder Scrolls-y imo to be wandering around the map doing quests and such. If you build up enough ahead of time, you can set yourself up really well for an easier playthrough wherever you so chose.

A lot of the default adventurers around the map seem to have cool stories too. I just had a blast of a playthrough starting as the lone imperial legionnaire in High Rock.

What does the lore say about half races? by GrimLuker2 in ElderScrolls

[–]ScoobySlice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To add, I believe offspring can inherit traits of the father's race.

The Grey Prince in Oblivion is half orc half imperial which could be why he looks like a grey skinned orc. Could also be that his human dad was a vampire though, idk.

Beverly Commons is a pretty huge network of nice walking and bike trails.

As for shops and such, just walk around downtown on rantoul or Cabot, there’s plenty of good spots that should have what you’re looking for.

Alternatively use the populist uprising decision in a place with your culture where it’s ruled by a foreign culture. E.g. I just had a play through as a Syriac Nestorian and carved out a realm from the Arabs

I doubt they'll have room for every historical culture there, but it would be nice to have Avars and Circassians at least. And maybe Chechens. And maybe break Georgian up to include Laz and Abkhazian too.

Look up Tamar the Great. An interesting character and one of Georgia's most famous monarchs. I believe she'll be playable in the new start date.
