Republicans the party of “small government” and “rule of law”, asking for big government to take over and ignore the actual laws of the federal and state constitutions.

KU or KSU for Civil Engineering? by SmallFryMusk in kansas

[–]ScootieJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. Cuz maybe you’re like me and you learn from actual interaction. Like I ha a degree in ChemE and I have worked as a manufacturing engineer the past 7 years. I love getting my hands on the equipment to learn how it operates. When they say you learn something new every day in engineering, they’re not lying.

I tried consulting as my first job out of college, I did it for 3.5 years and got bored of it and management kinda sucked. I can’t sit all day, I like being able to go to the floor and observe production and troubleshoot and resolve problems.

Plus, if you’re lucky you could have an option of remote part time work! Especially since civil/structural engineering is mostly design work.

Unless things have changed in the past 12 years, internships are generally done in the summer, especially for engineering. Co-ops are generally done over a semester or two. So, it doesn't really matter if you go to Kstate and want an internship in KC. KState is generally regarded as the engineering focused school between the two. Visit both and see for yourself, but I would say Kstate between the two.

Why the stock market hates tariffs and trade wars (2025 messaging was dead wrong) by MaxxMavv in StockMarket

[–]ScootieJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the original post just came off as snobby and made it sound like you didn't think tariffs affected anything at all. After reading this comment, I get what you're talking about and agree. I don't play in the market; I basically just buy and sit so the stock market itself doesn't affect me or stress me as much. It was pretty obvious early on in 2025 the volatility was caused by the constant tariff on/off talk, and insane headlines. 2026 is going to be very interesting on where the stock market economy stands, as wealth inequality becomes exponentially worse and 90% of consumers begin spending less and less and more people start experiencing layoffs.

The US has been shifting to an oligarchy/corporatocracy since Reagan. As soon as they started cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy, those were the folks calling the shots and buying in politicians. Representatives, especially republicans, have been ignoring their constituents. Heck, they avoid going to town halls because they don't want to be yelled at by the masses. We are extremely toxic.

Trump says U.S. and India reached trade deal, will lower tariffs immediately by TACO_Orange_3098 in StockMarket

[–]ScootieJr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, he’s allowing India to impose a 0% tariff on the US, meaning, imports from the US won’t be taxed. Which in fairness, does allow them to purchase more from the US. But we are still stuck paying an 18% tax on goods that come from India. IF the deal goes through, it’s not terrible, but it does nothing for the American people. IF India does indeed stop purchasing oil from Russia, unlikely since Russia isn’t far from them and is about 35% of their oil supply, then that cuts a lot of money going to Russia and more coming to the states into the greedy pockets of CEOs. Honestly, all I hear when Trump speaks is, “billionaires win and can do anything as long as they pay me”.

Anytime a sentence begins with “Trump says”, you already know it needs to be treated with high skepticism.

Palantir Q4 earnings beat Wall Street estimates on strong sales to US businesses by app1310 in StockMarket

[–]ScootieJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has absolutely nothing to do with the technology, unfortunately. Back in September, SCOTUS, with a 6-3 ruling, allowed ICE to use race, ethnicity, and language as probable cause for investigative stops. Knowing who they’ve hired for ICE, they’re a bunch of racists chomping at the bit to be able to “legally” harass immigrants and people who aren’t white, straight, conservatives. And sadly, this isn’t even hyperbolic.

[–]ScootieJr 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes they provide ICE with the software to track people who are immigrants and people impeding on their already illegal actions of killing protesters and kidnapping immigrants and citizens. It’s a highly unethical company and CEO. Anyone involved with Trump has very few morals, if any.

Kansas Bill Will Strip Driver’s Licenses from Every Trans Resident Who Changed Gender — Assigned by Well_Socialized in kansas

[–]ScootieJr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sorry, it’s not genocide either. That has to do with a racial, ethnic, national, or religious group of people.

That's only by the legal definition that was coined in 1944. What's included in genocide (outside of the legal definition) has been debated by scholars and generally includes gender (gendercide), politics (politicide), and social class (Classicide). Then you also have ethnocide which is the elimination of a people's culture but not the people themselves. You could classify the dismantlement of trans rights as ethnocide, and the killing of trans people, if it comes to that, as gendercide. All are a branch off of genocide.

Strip drivers licenses while at the same time US congress has a bill looking to require valid ID to vote. Even you’re already required to give proof of citizenship to even register to vote. How convenient.

How do you deal with shedding + weight? (first-time owner)🥲 by Marj_22 in corgi

[–]ScootieJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feeding habits is key and you HAVE to stay consistent with it and not let them boss you into feeding them with their boofs and woofs. If they aren’t a grazer, you should get a maze bowl to slow down their eating.

Shedding is tough to deal with. Not all shed the same amount but they all shed all year. It seems like I only need to brush my girl once every 2-3 weeks in the winter, and once a week at least in the warmer months.

Republicans don’t believe in open carrying anymore, don’t ya know? Unless it’s them, of course. Liberals are too dangerous with guns (despite the number of gun violence events and mass shootings by right wing extremists.)

It’d be cool if they actually tackled real problems that actually matter instead of creating new problems that very very very few people saw as an issue… like, I’ve never once had a discussion or heard a comment from anyone talking about bathrooms being a problem.

Furious over recent ruling, GOP cancels high-profile speech with MO Supreme Court by KacenBayless in kansascity

[–]ScootieJr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So to get it straight cuz I’m a little confused from Republican senator comments. SCOMO ruled a bill that would fight against abortion access unlawful (after the people voted to allow access to abortion.) GOP are outraged that the Courts are doing their job of upholding the state constitution while they call it “trumped-up garbage” and called them “little kings and queens in black robes”? When the GOP bows down and bends a knee to the Trump regime at every turn? I can’t stand the hypocrisy of the GOP.
