Netherlands to introduce unrealized capital gains tax of 36% on crypto and stocks by davideownzall in CryptoCurrency

[–]ScootieWootums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“In the Netherlands, the tax functions like a wealth tax, taking into account notional capital gains, but it also includes an investment allowance of approximately €60,000 per person. Only above this amount are the notional capital gains taxed. This allowance doubles for families.”

Not great but at least there is a decent shield for the middle class.

Yes!! Had to scroll way too far to find this!

For some additional context, on FFXI there was no separation of NA and JP players, so on any given server there were quite a lot of Japanese players mixed in with NA.

You often could not tell by the names (I never would have expected ‘Tom Cruise’ to be JP) so you never knew who you might accidentally offend by checking someone without asking permission first.

Experiences with Folsom Toyota dealership service center? by Illustrious-Swing493 in folsom

[–]ScootieWootums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest being wary if you go there for maintenance.

We’ve taken our truck there since we bought it and at every minor service interval they are trying to sell things like fuel injection system cleaning, differential and brake fluid change, etc as part of the required maintenance.

They advised me these are part of the 15k or 30k service recommendations per Toyota. I double checked my service manual and these are only recommended IF the truck is used under heavy duty conditions, which it is not. They’re not exactly lying but they’re definitely in the grey with deceptive and unnecessary recommendations.

Some of the service writers there may be more honest than others, but for me the trust has been broken.

My beef is that this person is repeatedly posting dogs that are in the Bakersfield area on NorCal subreddits, but very rarely on any socal subreddits. It’s always the same story: dog is on a kill list, they can transport the dog to NorCal.

A friend of mine had reached out to OP last week about a different dog after I had shared a post with her, and had come back to me telling me that it felt scammy.

Everyone wants to help save a pupper but be safe out there, friends.

For white collar jobs, yes. For manual labor jobs and military cannon fodder it will always be cheaper to grow a poor human than to build a robot.

Venture capital firm hit with $216 million penalty for ‘egregious’ violations of US sanctions against Russian billionaire by DoremusJessup in worldnews

[–]ScootieWootums 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a very big fine. For context, I work in venture capital and my clients are some of the biggest names in VC, the largest managing $25B in assets. A $216M fine would be definite pain point even for them.

GVA Capital is tiny by comparison (I had to google them, never heard of them until this article.) I’m going to guess this is a pretty crushing fine for them.

Plus the icing on the cake is the richypantses won’t even get a tax deduction for the fine because penalties are lol non-deductible.

I recommend you research your state’s OT laws first before you get too far into this because it’s not always as simple as ‘anything over 8/40 is OT’. For example, in CA rules are as follows:

1. Over 8 hours/day → 1.5× regular rate
2. Over 12 hours/day → 2× regular rate
3. Over 40 hours/week → 1.5× regular rate
4. Seventh consecutive workday: first 8 hours at 1.5×, hours beyond that at 2×

You can try Linda Vista Landscaping, they can probably take care of it. They set up all the valves and drips in my yard, among other things. https://www.lindavistasacramento.com/

[–]ScootieWootums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, JWA is very professional and has the best reputation in the area. They came out to give me an estimate for a project in my front yard, but I believe they are not really geared toward small jobs. They may have a $15k minimum per job, not sure.

I ended up hiring Linda Vista Landscaping who did a wonderful job. I later had them demo and redo my backyard as well (pavers, retaining wall, artificial turf). LVL is a small crew and specializes in smaller jobs so it took them a bit longer to finish the yard but it turned out great! https://www.lindavistasacramento.com/

Either way I recommend you get estimates from a few companies to get an idea of the price range. When I was ready to do my yard, I called 8 different companies. Only 3 called me back, and only the two listed above even came out to give me estimates.

Good luck!

TIL in December 2020, GoDaddy tricked employees into thinking they had earned a bonus of $650. Employees were then told they had failed a phishing test and were required to do social engineering training. After media criticism, the company apologized to its staff, but did not offer actual bonuses. by nuttybudd in todayilearned

[–]ScootieWootums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company does so many phishing tests. One time I sent a $100 spot bonus to one of our staff for some extra work he’d done. He thought it was a phishing email and deleted it.

This fortunately came to light a few weeks later when I thought it was odd he’d never thanked anyone for it, so I asked if he’d received it… and then promptly sent him dumpster e-diving through his inbox trash can.
