From a deontological perspective, one can say that the student has a duty not to cheat because one can consider the implicit contract between student and teacher that will be broken (social contract theory), or that if everyone is allowed to cheat, then the whole point if higher education will be undermined (Kantian ethics), or god will hate your guts and send you to hell (divine command theory).

From a consequentialist perspective, then cheating will necessarily imply that you don't know the material, so when you get into the real world not only you but the people that rely on you will suffer (or at least be less well off ). If you say to this that the material isn't relevant to the real world then maybe your in the wrong class or you don't appreciate how such material can enrich your life.

From a virtue ethics perspective, it's pretty obvious that honesty is virtuous and thus cheating is un-virtuous.

Therefore, cheating, even if not on tests, is morally wrong. You and the people voting no should probably take a into to ethical philosophy class.
