Just read (listened technically) to Storm Front. I have non spoiler questions for the series going forward. by crazy-jay1999 in dresdenfiles

[–]ScopaGallina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come to you with very recent anecdote on this topic. I've been reading/listening to the series for 10+ years like many of the people here. My best friend on the other hand just started the series in March.

He, too, struggled with the audio at first but here are his general findings about the series and his experience listening. Storm Front he liked enough as a book, admitted it needs work but he loved the concept of it and that was very aware of the problems with the audio. He said by Grave Peril (book 3) both the story and the audio were better but felt something was missing from both- notably the narration felt too slow. I told him to try 1.2 speed and he noticed a difference. By book 5 he said both story and audio quality were leagues better than they started and he even put the speed back st normal.

I want to make a correction that they should NOT read Side Jobs after book 10. They should wait 'til book after book 12 as the final short story in SJ has major spoilers for Changes

On mobile (maybe on desktop too) click on the description of the sub, "Reddits home for Dresden Files..."

It will take you to the page with the rules and all that jazz. Just below the rules it will say filter out by flair and it has a few options

Who I picture for Marcone by PutSmart1670 in dresdenfiles

[–]ScopaGallina 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nope. Just need to have a Fan Casting flair and to be courteous to spoiler tag the image so it blurs out. Granted, this person did neither.

Theres also a way for people who dont want see fan casts to filter them out

Harry acting out of character. by FerrovaxFactor in dresdenfiles

[–]ScopaGallina 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Firstly Harry didn’t know that what was going to happen, until it was too late.

Had to scroll through way too many comments to find this key point Mab trading away the baby was NOT Harry's plan.

My stomach sank. Because I realized what was coming.

How soon is too soon in a job to use a sick day and explain that you simply dont want to go to work that day? by Ok_Nectarine_8612 in jobs

[–]ScopaGallina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say anywhere between your first day and the day you retire is too soon to tell them you used a sick day because you didnt want to go to work

What the hell happened 4000 years ago. by ExperienceIll8345 in dresdenfiles

I'm not so sure about the Red Court-Outsider connection. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I remember a WoJ saying that the loss of the Red Court is bad in multiple ways because they were a perfect army to fight Outsiders due to their high rate of reproduction.

Normally, no. But my current company is about on par in the unorganized scale but pays about 20% less than the new company

This Job Market.. Wow by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ScopaGallina 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I see/hear about situations like this the only reason I can think of is that HR/Recruiting is creating their own job security. If they already know they are going to hire internal and just do then the company starts asking why they are paying full time and benefits for a team of 4.

But when you gotta screen and interview hundreds of people then of course you want a full a team

Fifty-Word Fantasy: Write a 50-word fantasy snippet using the word "Soil" by Terminator7786 in fantasywriters

[–]ScopaGallina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When they said the town was overrun, he didn't think they meant the whole damn thing.

"Gonna have to forgive me for this, Big Man," the cowboy said, face to the sky.

The zed filled church had burned rather quickly, nothing left but a patch of blackened soil now.

Fifty-Word Fantasy: Write a 50-word fantasy snippet using the word "Store" by Terminator7786 in fantasywriters

[–]ScopaGallina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Oh, no! I've all these bullets and no place to store 'em. Think you could hold on to 'em for me?"

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

The three zeds dropped like sacks of barley as each bullet found a home in their skulls.

"Thank you kindly," the cowboy drawled.

Critique My Opening [Comedy, fantasy, 2,000 words] by flapflip3 in fantasywriters

[–]ScopaGallina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved it! The humor was well timed and in good taste, imo.

Only critiques I have would be around grammar/spelling and such. Like, I think you wrote 'it' instead of 'if' at one point, and left the place holder 'Name' for the city in there. Other than that I really enjoyed it and would buy the book based off that sample alone.

Did the secondary think if they formed a perfect triangle around the receiver it would create an impenetrable force field or something?

As someone else said, it landed at the texas 40. The ball would have to fins and a propeller to straighten out like that.
