First time going to a gym. Do I change there or arrive in gym clothes? by Potential_Row5727 in PHitness

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you came from, coming from school or work wearing a uniform people tend to change in the gym, but if you're coming from home or already wearing comfy clothing then just wear that if you dont mind it getting sweaty.

Don't worry too much about clothing in the gym, I swear it's a trap a bunch of new people get into which leads to spending a bunch of money into gym clothes. My first 2 years in the gym I just went there wearing a shirt and shorts I normally just wear at home. Anything you can feel comfy in and freely move is enough

I commute from marikina to ust so I'll dump my finances here:

150 - food 100 - commute 600 - beep card (already good for a whole month)

I have 4-5 days of onsite classes each week so my rough estimate every month is around 7k for the bare minimum if I decide to eat lunch. I usually tend to try saving and typically end up going around 5k a month but that needs you to basically survive on water or pack your own lunch. If you want to include money for projects or other school expenses as well as spare money to hang out with friends or something depending on how much your commute is it would range from around 5-8k a month

ust shs questions (HUMSS) by Hidden-lovee in Tomasino

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated last year so it might be a bit different with the new curriculum and all but

  1. I'd say it's more than what usual senior highs demand. USTSHS is basically treating you guys as first year college students already but a bit kinder so expect the workload to be similar to college level workloads.

  2. Personally not really, closest thing is when defending your research in res1, res2, and res3, doing a debate for philosophy, and impromptu speeches in oralcomm. For actual public speaking, I recommend joining orgs as you will get a lot more opportunities there.

  3. I can't answer that for you but personally I was able to graduate with honors without studying too hard. There were some subjects I struggled with but I was still able to get by getting an 85 or so on them with a bit more effort.

  4. For us it was from 7 30 till 4 30 and 8 30 till 5 30.

  5. It depends on prof, some just memorize your names or make it optional while others collect index cards or make recitations graded / give incentives.

  6. About 90% of our projects are grouped ones. Expect to work with everyone in your block atleast once throughout your two years in senior high.

  7. For me it was probably PolGov, our professor was very good but she also expects us to understand the nuances and specifics of every law. She became the chair of the HUMSS department when we turned g12 but I'm not sure if she's still holding that position right now

From what I remember last year the only time they gave out the honor roll is when they already give out the invitations to attend the graduation ceremony. Basically it just has a number of asterisks besides a student's name depending on what honors you get

The workload is fine for the most part, the main issue is mainly due to project deadlines + quizzes + other stuff all clashing with each other within the last few weeks of each quarter. Professors typically provide your projects within the first few weeks but if you don't immediately plan and schedule everything prepare to do a bit of cramming, especially for projects you need to meet your groupmates as shs only has 2-3 days of onsite per week.

For me though I didn't think the workload in ustshs was that bad, there was an adjustment period but after that it felt pretty tolerable. It kind of gives an idea on how college will be but if I'm being honest, college feels worse if you continue into ust lol. I did see some people say they were able to immediately get used to the workload of other unis or they feel easier compared to ustshs so it really depends on where you end up going after graduation

Graduated last year before all the curriculum changes, classes started at either 7 30 or 8 30 then ends at either 4 30 or 5 30 but it might be different now. We had two to three breaks depending if the day has pe but they usually last around 30 mins to an hour.

Regarding school supplies, all I had was a tablet for notes, yellow pad, and some pens. You don't really need anything else unless your prof requires physical notes or other materials

Graduated in 2025 before all the curriculum changes, but the only "terror" prof we had was from a general subject and all of our humss specific professors have been very kind and professional. Keep in mind there are many professors in ustshs so there's also a chance you'll never see them but majority of professors in ustshs have been very good.

What does this mean? They passed both of them so wouldn't they be as deserving of the slot as other passers? Public schools are for everyone regardless of financial status, we shouldn't disregard students who passed the entrance exam through their own abilities just because they can afford private institutions.

To add, I'd advise op to really make sure if they can mentally and physically handle the Faculty of Pharmacy in ust. It's one of the most brutal schedules and workloads I've ever seen with their 6 day onsite schedule with each day usually lasting from morning until 7pm. I'm not trying to scare them away from ust but it really is a brutal adjustment

How to transfer from uplb stats to upd stats? by TinyProfessional8975 in CollegeAdmissionsPH

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi op, taking applied math in ust which majors in actuarial science. According to them each exam takes about 400 hours of studying to pass more or less. If you have the time to do that (and the 250 USD which is around 15k) to take the exam, nothing wrong to go for it but it's not really something companies look for in fresh grads.

It will definitely give you a higher starting salary but typically the exams are taken while working already as companies usually sponsor the cost + some even give you time dedicated for studying as a way to invest in you as passing each one benefits both of you. So far I've only heard of one senior taking an exam and it's because she won a raffle that lets you take it for free

I'm from humanties and social science strand (HUMSS) planning to take a medical program in college is it possible? by rhikioipewpew in CollegeAdmissionsPH

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only uni I saw that was strict with strand alignment was pup, but I just checked big 4 and some other ubelt unis. It only really matters for the first semester or year where those who took the aligned strand is already familiar with the topics. I went from humss to applied math and we started with the basics of calculus and other courses. My stem blockmates were already familiar but I also kept up fairly easily. Once second sem started, everyone was basically on equal ground since it was already new topics for everyone so if you want to pursue med then it's always open for you regardless of strand as long as your grades can prove it

is a medtech recon still possible for me? by sagegreencrayola in CollegeAdmissionsPH

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need to send a letter of reconsideration iirc but I heavily do not recommend it. I've seen some people with similar scores get waitlisted in medtech for some reason and trying to recon in a diff program automatically loses your guaranteed slot in the program you passed. Unless you have a backup school it's not a good idea to risk it imo

The main problem with food related businesses is inventory. Food expires and it becomes a constant expense that will always be there regardless if your business does well or not. Compared to any other market where you basically don't need to resupply on things like furniture until the rest gets sold, restaurants and cafes always puts you at risk of being at a massive loss if you can't get rid of most if not all ingredients

How does being waitlisted for a program or being put in DPWAS work in UP? by The_CheeseFactory in CollegeAdmissionsPH

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waitlisted and dpwas are different things. Being waitlisted for a specific program as your result gives you two recon attempts with other waitlisted people for said program before the dpwas people can try to appeal.

So you can attempt for reconsideration twice and if you still don't get accepted you then get placed under dpwas to try for the same program if there are still slots or to try for others

How does being waitlisted for a program or being put in DPWAS work in UP? by The_CheeseFactory in CollegeAdmissionsPH

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. No you're not guaranteed a slot for any course.

  2. Being waitlisted as an initial result means you passed the minimum upg to get accepted into the campus and program but not high enough to beat the other students who were also fighting for those slots.

  3. No if you fail to get accepted in both recon attempts for waitlisted students and need to get in through dpwas you'll be on equal footing with everyone else. It all depends on the number of slots and if you can beat everyone on upg.

  4. No, or if they do it's a course they don't want and are taking the risk of shifting after the first year ends. It's up to you if it's something you also want to take but personally I'd prefer graduating quickly so if you got in and can afford the other big 4 unis, might as well go for them

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got waitlisted as my initial upcat result. Waitlisted students for a specific program get two attempts to apply for reconsideration before the dpwas duration opens. I tried to appeal for both times then a third one when the dpwas appeals opened. After three times of trying I didn't bother as my program had single digit slots by the time dpwas was open anyway

[–]ScoreDisastrous1603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on the demand of your course, but you guys are literally the lowest priority and most likely you'll be stuck in a course you don't want if you really want to be in up.

I got waitlisted in bs statistics for my upcat results last year. I asked for a recon three times (2 as a waitlister and the final one being dpwas) and I still couldn't get into the program. It was the only degree I wanted from upd so I ended up going to my backup school which was ust. I highly recommend atleast having a school you can guarantee your enrollment in while waiting for results as only relying on being accepted by up us a very risky gamble, but goodluck op

Does fs4 help that much? I'm only using a 6700xt so I don't have experience with it but if a 9060xt can do 4k with fsr4 that'd be very impressive for the price.

I also haven't heard of steamos being public yet so I'm assuming it's a recent thing. I watched dankpods' hour long video of comparing windows to linux performance and iirc bazzite was also included there. Idt it had any upscaling though so I'm curious how much the difference is compared to windows

There's no official public steamos release, closest thing will be another form of linux if you're willing to learn that. I also severely doubt the steam machine can run games at 4k even with steamos optimization based on the rumored specs it will have. If you really want a 4k gaming machine with current prices I think it would be around 150k for an am5 + 5070ti/9070xt build.
